2014 v. 2013 X1
Thanks for this info. Can you tell me how you found it? I've been trying to learn more about how the 2014 X1 will differ from 2013. I have a very good price point on a 2013 and am debating whether I should buy it or wait for 2014. Given the info you've shared, I'm leaning to just buying now--none of the changes, to the extent known, look that significant to me.

got the info from my dealer while placing an order for an ED. ultimate package is now 6150. lighting package is 900 now but automatic highbeam is a separate 250$ option not included in this package.
and i think bmw assist with bluetooth and bmw apps is now included as standard. MSRP remains the same. so waiting for 2014 if you are planning on taking these options will save you close to a 1000$ |

Apparently, the 2015 X1 will be a quite different design based on the Mini Countryman. |

Maybe 2016, 7 year model runs
2010 2011 2012 2013 2014 2015 2016 I doubt seriously they would shorten the model run especially since they wouldn't want to launch the same time as the new Countryman. We may not see it until the 2017 model year with the new Countryman coming a year earlier.

You're funny. The six speed is hardly antiquated. It's just not as efficient as the 8s, but does provide better straight line performance.
The X3 is an F series chassis, totally unrelated to the E84 chassis of the X1 which is a derivative of the "outdated" E91 3er wagon, which used the same 6s transmission in the 335i offered everywhere but NA. |

Any info on colours, will there be anything different than 2013? Also do you know if Lemans Blue will be offered without M package? Lemans blue sportline would be stunning.

The 6 speed may not be able to skip gears but in this application it seems good, have all the power you want without needing to shift it so much. To quote an interview with ZF "Is the 6-speed automatic transmission thus outdated? Wagner: Certainly not. The 6-speed automatic transmission will continue to provide the benchmark with the reaction and shifting times of a dual clutch transmission. We also lead the competition when it comes to shifting comfort and consumption. Therefore, the 6-speed will surely remain in our program until 2015." |

The X1 uses the second generation ZF 6HP which is much improved over the first for gear changes. This second generation can skip up to 4 gears and can actually do some gear changes faster than the 8 speed. The 8 speed can do all gear changes in right about 100ms. The 2nd gen 6HP can do some in 80ms and worst cast is 200ms. I spent probably 10 hours doing some very in depth research on these transmissions (though I don't want to claim I know it all and maybe someones report was inaccurate) but the 6HP is a very good transmission and has about half the parts and will change gears less making it more likely to have fewer problems.
Here's an article I quckly googled about skipping gears in the 6HP http://wardsauto.com/news-amp-analys...p-transmission Somewhere on my home computer I have pdf docs that go over various shift times in the 6HP, also found via google but I don't have the link handy. |

Hmm. I AM interested in those newly priced options. At the same, I'm being offered $700 over invoice on 2013. Since an assumed ~5% dealer profit will run me $2,000, seems like I'll save about $1,000 or more either way (buying now at 2013 close-out price, or buying 2014 with reduced-cost options). Would you take the $700 over offer? Seems awfully good.

Can any 35i owner confirm they are able to shift directly from 6th to 4th (skipping 5th) with their paddles?
If this is true and I had known this, I likely would have gone with the 35i over the 28i. That said, I have found the 28i power sufficient & I like the vehicle more than the 2009 E90 335i I traded for it.

We bought the 35i because we both like torque and with the lack of an F11 at all in the US and no 335i F31, it was our best bet. Would it be nice to get better mileage? Sure, but is the 6s a hit in any way aside from efficiency? Not that I've seen. Our E84 continues to get better mileage than our N54 E82, which I find odd, given the similar driveline with much less weight half (or one quarter) of the driven wheels. |

Red, what sort of mpg are you seeing on your 35i and how many miles are on it?
Let me first say the N20 is a great motor and the ZF 8HP is a great transmission. However when I check other companies mpg when switching to that transmission and using the same engine they did with their 6hps, the mpg increase isn't near where ZF and other manufacturers were, lets say expecting. Some 8HP marketing info I found mentioned specifically the 15% increase was in relation to the 1st gen 6hp. The 2nd gen 6hp itself was to have an average of 8% increase over the 1st gen 6HP, so only a 7% increase was expected at most from the 8hp over the 2nd gen 6HP. Other information I read seemed to indicate real world testing of the ZF 2nd gen 6hp and 8hp was really about half the % increase expected for various reasons including the fact that not all gears "increased" mpg the same (anywhere from 1% to 20 something% depending on the gear) and real world city driving didn't match as well to the computer simulated statistics they based the gear ratios on. There aren't a whole lot of 35i owners and many haven't reported 5k+ mpg's, maybe it's time to bump that mpg thread and see what people are seeing and I'll avoid hijacking this thread. |

My wife's the worst case scenario for any car. She has a three mile urban commute, with about a dozen stop lights. The E82 got a 16.2 mpg average, and the E84 is averaging 17.4 mpg on the same commute. I think she's at about 4500 miles, and the E82 seemed to get more efficient until about 8k miles, so if that trend continues, things should get slightly better yet.
The three highway trips we've taken were done with less than 2k miles and returned right at 26.0 mpg, which is under the 27.5 mpg that the E82 got. I'm not sure if things will improve as much on that front, since the X1 sits higher and has awd. We'll at least run down to Austin soon, so I'll keep an eye on that once we make that trip. |

Also, if you talk to the tuners out there they'll tell you the 6SP is a stronger xmission and able to handle more pwr/tq than the 8SP.
