Rattle on start up
When I press my ignition to start up the car, there is a metallic rattling sound. It's kind of hard to describe, but it almost sounds like a piece of foil rattling or something. I haven't been able to pinpoint the location, but it only lasts for about 0.5 sec when the engine first fires up.
My best guess for the sound is the exhaust flapper for the dual pipes fluttering before it seats itself during warm up, but I'm not convinced. Been thinking about taking it in to the dealer, but wanted to check and see first if anyone has heard something similar or knows what the cause may be. |

Same here. Took it to a dealer - they said that it's normal. They compared it to a brand new X1 they had on the lot and it did the same thing. Oh well, mine only does it when cold.

Engine Rattle
I can hear this sound (some foil rattling) even after the engine has run for some time. Was planning to take it to the dealer.. Did you guys see this only during the ignition startup or does it continue to be there when the engine is running idle. When press on the gas, the sound kind of gets lost in the engine sound.

Same rattle here. Real annoying when I start up and leave the parking garage after work. The reverberation of the enclosed space really exacerbates the sound. Didn't notice it when I first bough the car in February as it was cold and I always had the windows up. It's when it got warmer and I had the windows down that I really noticed. It's probably my biggest gripe about the car.

If you unplug the valve in the exhaust at the exits, the noise will almost go away. Or at least I've been told
