LED Headlamps retrofit

May I share with you some experiences with my new headlights?

My 2010 X1 had regular halogen headlights. I ordered a set of non-OEM new LED U-style headlamps in order to get better illumination and a better look. They were expensive ($800) but when considered as a styling project I found it much more appealing than many alternative projects. Because headlights are so visible and they display the car very well.

They say installation is easy but advice you do it professionally. I chose to do it at my repair shop, and yes, the installation is supposed to be plug-and-play, but adjustments had to be done to the brackets and it was a tight fit. It took them 3 1/2 hours. As you may know the front bumper has to come off, but it had to be taken on and off a few times to make adjustments.

Please note that future change of light bulbs is a tight job as there is no cap anymore but a cover with four screws. Also the air filter unit may have to come off. Even though this is a LED unit please remember that the light bulbs are still halogen. At least I chose the very white-type of lamps.

Also, adjustments of height and direction is difficult due to the location of the screws. Again I am referring to my repair shop feedback.

Having said all this I am very pleased with the look of the new headlights and indeed of he whole car after the replacement! The car look more classy and simply more new.

They look awesome! If I didn't have lighting package on mine I would seriously consider these. I love the LED lights

And what about the quality of the light output? Personally, I'd hope there was some advantage to the quality of the light compared to the OEM halogens.

Thanks for nice comments. The strength of the lighting is improved. Formerly the lights were yellow and not so strong.

Firstly it is entirely white. Now, I do not believe the LED parts really gives that much light themselves. The halogen bulbs themselves are white-style, also the reflectors and glasses may contribute. I don't know what gives the most.

Good to hear. Do you have a URL for these lights?
