Is the sport package different than the M sport package?
I'm looking at a couple of used X1s that are model year 2015. I've seen the M model, but I'm also looking at one that has the sports seats and the M Wheels but on the door sill it says BMW sport not M sport. Has anybody seen this? Is this a special model?

You could spec almost anything on these, the only things you couldn't individually spec is the areo package and the "sports" suspension outside of the M IIRC.

Just grab the vin and toss it into any of the online decoders:

So I’m a new 2 week owner of a 2015 X1 X35i M Sport. The tires were replaced before I bought it, but they are all the same size. 225/45/R18. The VIN decoder shows BMW LA wheel, M Double Spoke 355. Can I go back to a staggered setup when these wear out? Looks like I need to figure out what I’m going to do about the spare too, because they are not run flat, they are Kelly Edge A/S, not what I would have bought, would have preferred Michelin Pilot Sport. My first post, glad to find you guys, lots of good information and I’m already a major enthusiast!

My Msport does not have the staggered wheel setup. The rims and tires are the same. I have s-drive if that matters.
From what I've read, the only suspension change is that Msport has stiffer springs. |

I think the torque split is a myth and not all M Sports came with staggered wheels (mine has the 18" square setup, for example), I believe all the 19" OEM wheel setups are staggered on the X1, though.

And not to knit-pick, but the car has open diffs front and rear iirc, so it physically can't "torque vector" as that term is typically intended to mean. 50/50 split to each side of the diff at all times. It will grab an inside wheel brake, etc. to induce yaw/fight understeer though.

I have a feeling that the front/rear torque split change for the M sport is a myth too... anyone have any hard evidence on this? I don't see any mechanical differences in the drive line.Torque distribution between front and rear is variable and controlled by an electronic actuator in the transfer case, so technically a different default front/rear split could be programmed into M sport cars (software). |

I agree it is possible, but if it was true, I'd expect to be able to find something from BMW regarding it. |

Mine is a 2014 sDrive20 MSport It has the 19" staggered wheels:
Style 225 8J x 19 with 225x40 Front Style 225 9J x 19 with 255x35 Rear I don't think the sDrive20 was available in USA but is here in Australia. |

From the sales brochure it looks like they upped the speed limiter if you opted for the staggered wheels. I'm considering swapping my back two wheels for the 18 inch staggered version or maybe going to 19's.

My 2013 MSport sdrive 28 (enough fricken letters and numbers) came with staggered wheels and I know the brakes are not standard as well as body and suspension.
Were still on the original pads at 47,000 miles with pads to spare.

Staggered F's with the driveability and ruins the experience. MY personal opinion.

The performance option is for xdrive to apply brake at individual wheel to correct vehicle traction

(My) Sportline 35i has better seats and different exterior trim. No suspension or mechanical upgrades.

Referencing the BMW Complete Vehicle document (google for it), the X1 shares the exact same transfer case for the same years. There are variant changes which is supported by realoem.com. The document describes in some technical form on the handling dynamics of X1s. No mention of 20/80 power split. Default is 40/60. Varies according to conditions. Jump on the gas hard and it's 0/100. The torque vectoring mentioned about is the Performance Control feature SA 2VG. Check VIN decoder to determine if your car has it. It's an option code available to any X1. The feature basically utilizes braking to counter under/over steer conditions. HTH. |
