Turn off automatic start stop?

I just bought a 2014 28. I like the automatic start stop feature but does it cause a greater chance of timing chain guide problems and should I shut it off every time I start the car? Love the car by the way. First BMW.

I had the dealer program to turn the ASS off when I first got the car. Dont like it, and has to be bad for car shutting down and stating up thousands of times. 142k happy trouble free miles.

Once I turn mine off it stay off unless I turn it back on or I switch into ECO Mode. Who am I kidding. I don't switch into ECO Mode unless I press the button by mistake.

Same. But I use it sometimes. You can also shift to sport at a red light opif you want to keep the motor running

Oh thanks I didn't know you could switch to manual to keep it running.

Supposedly BMW beefed up the starter as well as other engine parts so that all the extra starts won't cause excessive wear on the motor. I think most manufacturers who make cars with the start/stop feature have done the same.

But yeah on my wife's X1 we always leave that feature off, neither of us is too crazy about it. In fact, I wouldn't buy a vehicle that didn't allow you to turn off the start/stop.

All that said though, I wouldn't be afraid to use it in start/stop mode all the time if we liked it.
