I have a similar situation. My eCall, TeleServices and Remote Services contract expires in 2024, but the Connected Apps service expires August of 2017. I am presuming it will be a renewal of $199 after that? I know OnStar, Hyundai Connect and others are now charging for all those apps, was only time for BMW to follow suit.

Other than sending to the car from Google Maps and using the ventilation feature, I don't think I've used any other features.

So besides the whole SOS/Roadside Assistance thing, what am I really missing if I take the money and have them kill it?

Just wondering if there is some wonderful feature that I've not been using

FWIW, I decided to check out our assist. At this point it seems that the dealer never set it up. We did an ED so the state side dealer prep was minimal. Oddly when I called the dealer about it they said that ours was the second vehicle with in the last bit with the assist not set up.

BMW had disabled that feature in an older version, but enabled it again later on. Update your remote app.

I called BMW NA about the problem with my MY13 and was told they are receiving a lot of calls about the problem. I was also told that they are trying to find a solution to the problem. If you are affected, call them at 1-800-831-1117 and file a formal complaint. If enough of us do complain maybe they will do something sooner than later. As an aside, I totally used and relied upon BMW Assist for my three vehicles.

I'm curious on what features you "used and relied upon"?

No sarcasm, I just haven't really used it and would like to understand if there are things I've been missing that might make me want to upgrade rather than taking the $$$

I have used find my car several times in large parking lots. I also used the concierge service a couple of times. Remote locking has been used when I forgot to lock my car in a restaurant parking lot. The clown nose wasn't flashing which showed my mistake. Roadside assistance is also very nice to have although I have not had to use it. Stolen auto recovery also allowed me to get an insurance discount. The service provided me with peace of mind and that is why I have had it in all three of my cars. I also paid for the service when it was only good for two years not four on my 135i.

+1 on all those use cases

and add to that google search to get stuff into the navi, sending destinations to car, remote unlock via app

Has this got anything to do with the Wiki Local and News apps in BMW Apps coz wiki local doesn't work for me any more and keeps giving error server not found or sth. News app also don't load for Motorsport. However other news topics like BMW GulfSport, motorad works.. Anyone having any issues with these apps? BTW, Web radio works fine.

After a week and a half and three e-mails to customer support, I finally have my confirmation letter for the retrofit. They said that I had selected "no longer own the car" on the webpage, which is just impossible. Anyway, they were happy to fix it. If you have been waiting a while and gotten no confirmation, you may want to check with them too.

I have a 2013 X1, but when my Convenience plan subscription expired, I didn't renew because the agent warned me my car's combox was being phased out, which was nice of him, at the time. I've retained the Safety plan (SOS, emergency calls, basic Send To Car, but no Concierge/Google apps). However, now the sunset retrofit offer is supposedly only offered to those with currently active subscriptions, which irks me because I only discontinued my subscription because I thought there would be no further options. I have contacted the support team and my SA and they said they'll get in touch soon to figure it out.

UPDATE: Just called BMW Customer Relations and received pretty discouraging news. My plan expires Dec 26th, 2016, which is only 5 days before the required Jan 1st, 2017 contract end cutoff date required to receive either the gift card or retrofit offers. I pressed (politely) for a little more information, and received the reply that there was simply nothing they could and it's a hard cutoff date. If I'd taken delivery 5 days later this would be a non-issue. I'll call my SA later on and see if there's anything he can do, but I'm not very optimistic.

tl;dr: If you took delivery of your car at all prior to Jan 1st, 2013, you will likely be ineligible for a retrofit/offer.

I received a mailer today about this for my car. I'm not sure which way I will go since I never even activated my service. From what I recall, my subscription was actually for 10 years from date of activation - Normally I just go through insurance if I need anything, and I've only needed a tow one time because of my charge pipe breaking.

I had my combox replaced this week, 2 days at the dealer and I had a nice 340 xdrive loaner! Only bad part of the upgrade was that all of my coding and custom stuff was deleted or set back to defaults!

It was completed in 1 day, kept the 340 loaner for another as it was diffucult to get back to the dealer in time to make the pickup. It was the dealers first combox...

Got this alert too for my '15. I am leaning towards taking the $ as the features are nice...but not a deal breaker. Sure I've used them but I could just as easily not use them....

I could use some help clarifying things here. My service runs into 2023, but the retrofit option mentions a $199/year fee.

Does this fee apply right away or once my current service expires in 2023?

Called BMWAssist yesterday. It's $100 a year to renew ConnectedDrive service. The entire service package is $199.
