Yeah, there's another thread about that:
http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=901430

But there are other issues with that too, arguably more serious issues (since you can always sell your recalled BMW to a person... I believe...)

@Redsoxx: I hate that dealerships do that. If I recall my marketing class correctly it's because they know you've got a limited number of cars you'll be buying in your lifetime and you've already bought 9 from them, so they've got what they wanted out of you. Very stupid logic but it is what it is.

@BMW AG: TAKE NOTE OF HOW UPSET YOUR CUSTOMERS ARE WITH BMW NA. (not that I have any expectations for BMW to actually read this)

Mind you....this is my 5th BMW, so I'm a good customer. They now treat me like I have the plague. I've been shopping my car around and most dealerships tell me my car is on the "no sell" list and has no value until the recall is performed in several years. But...I found a dealership that is willing to take it and offered full trade value....lucky break....I left a deposit tonight. I've grown tired of my dealership's arrogance and BMW's horrible resale values.
Can you please elaborate on the 'no sell' list?
Is this BMW dealers or all other dealers too?

This thread is scaring the crap out of me. We are planing on selling the X1 this spring since we're running out of space with our second kid on the way and I'm going to lose my shit if we won't be able to.

I was told by BMW NA recall hotline that you cannot sell or trade AT ALL, wether it's a BMW dealer or not.

Will since one person traded in his recalled X1 there is obviously some legal leeway. Your best bet would be to check if you're on the recall list or not and consult a lawyer if you are about how you could sell it. My understanding is that you can still sell it to a person, it's just that dealerships aren't willing to take the risk of selling a recalled car due to liability.

OK so your in a small accident, front end hit, and the airbag deploys. No one is injured how long until you get your car back? I think my insurance has a cap on the number of days for a loaner. This is Fhuked up.

Well.....yeah.......your family will make out ok.

My advice is to find a dealer that isn't hip to the recall and trade it in for something else.

Both my X1 and E90 are on the recall list.
I'll keep checking this thread for updates but it's really upsetting that I now have two cars that could kill me if I get in a fender bender...and that I'm stuck with them for a while

So I have been emailing with lawyer Steve Lehto and as long as BMW follows the governments recall guidelines there doesn't appear to be much legal recourse.

What about legal recourse in case of injury due to defect?

I am sure there would be no issues perusing that but the odds of an injury are low.

I'm affected. Plan was to trade my '13 in on a new 4 Series this Fall. If airbag isn't replaced by then I won't be buying another BMW. My first BMW, and between my sleazy dealership and BMW NA's complete lack of service, I'm afraid it may be my last.

Another question would be does this have any impact on being able to transfer a CPO warranty?

This could be a big deal if you can't trade the car in anywhere.

Got this is the mail today after many emails and calls to BMW NA, begging for guidance as it relates to the Takata recall...

Description: Ergonomically fit, the Level IIIA Ballistic Face Mask has been designed to maximize comfort while providing total front facial protection. Additional padding is incorporated at the forehead and either side of the face to maximize shock absorption from ballistic threats. A six point elastic attachment system allows the user to adjust for the perfect fit. VIEL GLÜCK! -BMW NA

But in all seriousness this is the only quick fix I can think of. I want this thing sorted out sooner rather than later.

And no, you should NOT disable your airbag. Having no airbag at all is much, much worse than having a potentially dangerous one.
I think it isn't all 2015 but rather those that are produced up to Sep 2014

What did you use to do the VIN search?

If it's the link posted by outlawdevil the site says at the top that its powered by NHTSA (i.e. USA based) and it says up also that "international vehicles" (like your Canadian car) are not covered
