Something leaking, what's near the front jacking point...

Does anyone know what is in the vicinity of the jack point (just in front of it) at the back of the engine (N20)?

Given that the level is now showing as low and it has a blue tint to it, I'm thinking it is an anti-freeze line.

Talking with someone else it sound like it is probably a hard coolant line.

Sorry to read that. So what's the plan? Is your car drivable?

No, had to have it towed in for service. Hopefully it will be done today, but I won't be disappointed if its not as I have an M340i for a loaner

It helps having a service manager who is a track day buddy!

Unfortunately, these cars (and really all e9x cars) are riddled with coolant problems... Mine had a failed water pump, failed expansion tank, and now I'm seeing a small leak on a hose connector.

Good thing BMW tops off coolant for free! Although, it's probably a ploy to get me to check out the showroom while the engine cools enough to open the expansion tank cap.

Yep, in addition to the broken pipe I had two hoses that were leaking. This was more likely hose connector related, but given that hoses are really supposed to be replaced every 4-6 years (even though nobody does this) I'm just having them replaced.

Just waiting to hear back from them on checking out a whining sound I briefly get every morning. It's a speed related whine that only lasts for the first mile or so and has nothing to do with RPMs or what gear the transmission is in.

I'm guessing it really isn't anything, but since the car is already in there and my CPO warranty is expiring...

After driving around my M340 loaner, I'm kind of glad I've got the 28i instead of the 35i. Even though the N55 doesn't have as much power as the M340 B58, I could see myself getting into a lot of trouble with the 6-cylinder X1

Coolant stuff is fixed, but they found that the whine I was hearing is a turbo bearing going bad. Fortunately I brought the car in before my CPO warranty expired and it will be covered.

I've gotten one speeding ticket in my 3 years of ownership (on-ramp to 36 from Boulder) It was worth it

I will say that while the M340 is just too dang big, I may start watching to see what the prices of M240s coming off of leases will be.

While track days are not a major priority, I do think my driving ability has started reaching the limits of my X1 and it may be time to start looking at options...
