Do you tow the Airstream with your x28i?

So far there have been no major failures, but I have had some oddities:

- I had the gas tank, filler lines, and some carbon canister replaced because I couldn't fill the gas tank without stopping and starting every gallon or so. This was by far the biggest headache, as it took 18 months and 3 dealers to actually fix it. Some of the previous fixes before the final "big fix" would remedy the problem for a month or so before acting up again.

- Handbrake was replaced once, as it started to slip when being applied occasionally. The "clicking" would skip and I'd have to pull harder. Very odd.

- My driver's side seat upholstery (black SensaTec) cracked slightly and was replaced.

- Thermostat (like many others) was replaced earlier this year. BMW NA just sent out 10y/100k thermostat warranty extensions because they're faulty.

- Front brake pads replaced just a few weeks ago. Rear pads and all rotors are almost like new.

- Lastly, I've had my license plate bracket fall off once. The dealer fixed it 3 years ago and I haven't had a problem since.

- Just about to put on my 3rd set of tires. They're Michelin run-flats.

My car and I have been through a lot over the past couple years. Sometimes I wish I'd gotten a Toyota like my parents have always had, but this has been SO much more fun.
Had 2 questions about your post:
- did the gas tank filling issue get worse over time or did it just start happening randomly?

- did BMW replace the Sensatec under any type of warranty or did you pay out of pocket for that?

I just got a 2014 xdrive28i in July....I absolutely love it. Have been keeping an eye on the forums for things that may become an issue in the future.

Just hit 72k. Three nagging issues...
1. Right side view mirror adjusts when it wants to and the fold in feature doesn’t work at all.
2. Right side door handle no longer works with comfort access.
3. Lower steering shaft replace at about 20k is now clicking and again in need of replacement.
Probably about $1000 in parts and 3-4 hours of labor to repair all 3 issues.

Other that that this car has been rock solid.

Just hit 70000 Km. Out of warranty end of this month.
Problems so far...
1. Thermostat
2. Leaking valve cover gasket.
3. Cracked valve cover.
4. Coil pack, this was very traumatic, limp mode etc. In heavy traffic.

I am going to drive it a bit longer and then replace with X3 M40i

Kevman,

You are our mileage leader. You're setting the tone for the rest of us. Keep up posted on your progress.

I've got 75k miles and agree....best car I've ever owned so far. (wish I would have sprung for the AWD and M seats)....only regret.

2010 23d xdrive. bought 68000klm now at 140,000 klms, trouble free , i change oil between 5000 and 10000 klms because the day i bought it read an issue about cam chain pre fail due to excessive wear, so figured dirty oil from diesel...bmw claim 15000klm service and i thought i would halve it. i always buy fully synthetic 5-30w. I do swap brands depending on whats on sale making sure it meets two categorys,
-its dpf friendly
- cf rating
hope this helps anyone else, oh and only reason i am typing is i just changed transfer case oil and only took 500ml. before i drive just want to confirm amount was correct.
cheers.

2012 x28i, 32,000km. No issues.

Only "problem" was resetting steering wheel calibration due to dead battery. (Car sat for a while between first owner and me). Threw TPMS and DSC codes after driving ~5km. Cleared on restart.

Oil changed ever 8,000-10,000km

Red seats are the bomb, but I prefer my mineral grey exterior. Blue looks good, just my preference.

14 with 117k? I don't feel so bad putting 25k on in less than the year I've owned my 14 sportline, 54k miles now. Had a 15 (brand new) that I drove to 30k and then... it met a fence it didn't like.

Went over 120k this week. Still drives like new. Just got second set of tires. Best car I have ever owned. Will keep her as long as she remains trouble free. The new X2 does look nice...

I really like the look of the X2, I just wish it had a 6 cyl version. It's really unique looking
