Radiator crack
I have a 2013 X1 and had to replace the radiator at 72K, anyone else having issues with their radiator. Seems pretty early for a replacement! Sorry should have added more details, my X-1 is a 28i X-drive, I have never used Eco Pro... most of my driving is around town and when I do go on a trip a space out and forget about using EcoPro… I drive my car moderately hard and it's had one track day in its life.. I do not know where the leak was as I had them just replace it when they reported it to me. I knew there was a problem since I have had to add anti-freeze for the last few months. Of course the warranty was up so it was all out of pocket $450 for the radiator and another $400 for the install... that apparently took less than 2 hours... I like the car just hope this is a one off problem as I'd really like to hang on to it for another few years. Looking at some of your replies it looks like there are a few of us out here!

I have had white smoke coming out of the exhaust for a month so it went to the shop. Small coolant leak in the head apparently but the real issue is a cracked radiator at 105k miles. It gets replaced in two weeks at my expense.

My radiator and coolant tank were recently replaced at 55k miles under CPO warranty. I had to pay the dealer $50 for some pressure tests. I noticed my coolant tank was leaking and when they did the test it showed the radiator also had a leak.

Interesting post, as my coolant tank just popped yesterday on my way to work. 2013 35i with only 52,000 miles. Even my 2004 330i ZHP coolant tank lasted for 10 years and 90,000 miles before it blew apart. And here I was thinking that just maybe BMW had finally learned how to build cooling systems that wouldn't fail pre-maturely.

just wanted to add to the post since I am also in the process of replacing the Radiator on mine (2012 X1 E84, 213,000 KM). notices coolant low level a few months, after a 2nd top up looked for the leak, and the rad seems to be the issue.
Going to be doing the work myself; hopefully goes smooth with the seals and hose fittings... fingers crossed! |

I've owned my 2013 35i since April 2021. Just killed the fifth radiator in a year. They've all died the same way. Separation between the plastic and the aluminum. Love this car but is really annoying to have this happen every couple of months.

I suggest that under boost the head gasket can let the coolant be pressured causing radiators and bottles to crack, especially with 5 in a year.

Another cracked radiator
14 X1 sDrive28i at 90k miles. Previous owner replaced radiator at 66k miles.
My car just went in for service, I had the low coolant light come on. Had to top it off 1-2 before I was able to get it in for the service. Same issue as you guys, upon inspection it looks like the plastic has separated slighting from the aluminum causing a leak. Getting a new radiator and some fresh hoses tomorrow. Hard to believe so many of us all have radiators failing 1-2 times on sub 100k mile cars. Thinking it may be time to part with this car soon. Doesn't sound like the mechanics are big fans of this N20 motor. |

Replaced my radiator at 100K KM. Notorious problem on the e84. If it goes again I'm getting an aluminum rad and calling it a day.

Keeping careful watch on mine since it's getting close to that point and just replaced the expansion tank 2 weeks ago, but struggling to find an aluminum rad.
Seems like the CSF 7046 would manage to fit, but response I got from CSF is they don't offer anything for E84 35i auto

Are you guys all tuned? Or is this an issue even with a fully stock setup?
