Im off to get the plastic dip for the kidney frames as I cant seem to find these for the x1 unless I order from china. I ordered the mud flaps but if it makes the car look bad I'm not going to add them. Other than that Im super happy with it. It drives well and takes curves fast. The only pisser is the way BMW has the M version package with the M wheel with pattle shifters online when you order the car. I never use them but looks good with the interior. Im still working on the complaint with BMW about getting them retro fitted..Ill keep u updated...

How much are they asking for the black grilles in China? I bought mine here for around $80 bucks shipped.

I'm not a fan of plastidip's rough texture.

retrofit is possible, but in diy, not in original package....
something like this:
buy new steering wheel
buy paddle shifter
run a cable between transmission hand lever and steering
properly coding your car, add code in VO
a couple of hours...

can you please make 3/4 picture about ECO PRO???

if you have to buy another steering wheel i suggest you to buy performance model in alcantara, is very confortable!
i got one with led, TOP!

Ok guys I need your help. The grills come with the chrome ring with black gloss centers.
Should I do matt on the rings and keep the center gloss? or gloss on the rings and matt in the center? or all matt or all gloss black.

Smile sweet car

BEAMERBOI, aka Curtis,
Thanks for sharing pics of your awesome new ride. Reading this thread is kind of like a time machine forward for me because a) I've been deciding between a new 328i or an X1 28i, and b) I've been seriously considering Valencia Orange and looking at M Sport Package, c) I would get the wood trim like you did, and d) my name is also Curtis . Seriously, it is. It's awesome to encounter another BMW fan with the same name.

Now that I've seen M Sport, it looks hot, possibly too aggressive for my taste, but I know I like that color! And the wood trim looks nice--classic. The online configurator is never as good as photos or in person, so it was great to see your photos.

When you drive, are you able to rest your right elbow on the center console? I noticed the center console was short, or maybe I'm too short, so I couldn't do it. I might need to try more seating positions.

Congrats and thanks again for the great pics!

I am confused on this as well as i tried to "Build your own" on this ... Looks like you can order the paddle shifters and MSport package but only on certain models and colors ,bizarre. ... but then As a MT guy the past 20 years i bought my first car back in 09 135i with paddle shifters becuse of bad knees..No not as connected as a MT but MUCH MUCH better than putting the car in D, although DS is pretty aggressive and could almost live with that, but if it came dowm to me plunking 47grand on a small ute i would want the option to have control of the shifting with paddles and should be standard on MSport option...shifting with the center console shifter is not my cup of tea, the paddles are tolerable and does appease me somewhat...As far as the kidney grills looks are subjective but in my experience black grills in gloss or matte look better to me than chrome anything...i opted for Dry Matte CF on my car and love it...Good luck with the paddles and IMO thses should of been included on your car from the get go and you should not have to scramble now to get it retrof-fitted....but if that retrofit is needed have BMW do it at the dealership. Your dealer should do it for you for nothing...

Took me two weeks of driving my X1 to figure this out, but the center console pad does slide forward. It will cover the single cup holder space, but a more comfortable driving position for me.

ok I started the grills with plastic dip. Dam they were a bitch to get off. I was scared to death i was going to f&*k something up. Word to the wize if you have headlight washers you must take the caps off before you start... The plastic dip is my only way as could not find real replacements here in the states.

M Sport only comes in 5 colors, paddle shifters come free with M Sport but you have to order them. I tried to order a Glacier Silver M Sport but had to go with Mineral White, other colors were orange, black, mineral gray and whatever the bright blue is called.

Ok Finished the grill

No photo shop...
Just finished the grill with plastic dip on the ring outside the grill. scale of 1-5 5 being hardest it was a 3.5 not real bad but you must take your time or you will fu*&^k something up and kick yourself latter. Normally thats me but I damaged nothing...

Took a few pics with phone.

I used the glossifier after I applied 5 coats. I did manage to ding one in the process so I pilled it off as was very easy and fun and started over. I just wonder what will happen when I wash the car with a pressure washer???

next is BMW Silver Carbon Fiber Auto Pedals just need to find them to go with the M foot rest... Why on earth BMW don't offer the remaining set kills me ????

Kinda looks like a tiger in the jungle LOL .....

Hm, need better pictures. Not trying to sound like a dick, but from those pictures, the plasti-dipped grille surround is sticking out like a sore thumb. Especially next to the awesome Valencia Orange finish and the gloss inner grille.

Well the plastic dip has a heavy matt finnish although i used the plastic dip glossifier to coat most of the matt. it looks better in daylight. herei took a few more with my phone this morning.

Jim, thanks! I actually wondered that, because my Jetta has the same feature. Console covering the cup holder reminds me of my first bimmer, e46 wagon. I'll try this on my next test drive.

The black kidney border is not my thing, but I do think it looks good. It gives your X1 a unique look. I hope the pressure wash doesn't mess up your work. The matte border kind of matches the hexagonal mesh in the air dam!
