Thumbs up BMW X1 US Launch Date Moved Forward to Capture Olympic Buzz

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
Just wanted to let everyone know that your X1s are being released immediate according to this email I just got from my brilliant CA, who pulled the information right off of the BMW bulletin this morning. All you lucky guys with your X1 here already will be able to pick up your car as soon as your dealerships are done with the prep and detailing work. My X1 has been sitting in port since July 22nd awaiting transport to the US still. Here's the email below. Hopefully your X1 will be coming soon!

This was just released in a bulletin from BMW a few minutes ago:

Quote:
The 2012 London Olympic Games are underway and BMW’s media presence is outstanding and creating a very powerful BMW presence. One commercial in particular features the all new X1 [video below]. To enhance traffic and support consumer demand generated by the ad, we are pulling forward the September launch date and releasing these vehicles immediately. There’s no better way to capture the sales excitement by having a vehicle on-hand.

Olympics Commercial

Admin Edit:

At least one X1 is now making its rounds at certain BMW events to drum up awareness and further promote the X1. Here is one that was on display yesterday at a Golf tournament held by Steve Thomas BMW.

Great news. Mine left Germany on 7-29 and I was told by my salesman that it would only be held in US port until Aug 17. Now maybe it will even be a bit earlier!

Mine went into production on the 12 and finished around July 22nd, and have been sitting in port since. I checked the status this morning by calling the 800 number, but it was still in port. I was hoping that it gets shipped out with the rest of you. I will have to call and check tomorrow morning.

Edit: No such luck! Mine is still in port. Been there for 2 weeks now.

Forgive my newbness, but how do they ship your car over the atlantic?
Is in driven onto the ship, is it craned on, is it put in a cargo container with other cars? Just curious.
Thx,

That's good news, its a great car but at the media launch the media was told that the car would be available in August- basically as soon as they got off the boat; maybe there was some confusion on the dealer end?

I think what BMWis finding is the market for upscale cars is broader than they ever thought. Here we see a smaller SUV than the X3. On the other end of the scale are unusual vehicles like the X6, 5 GT, and 4 door coupe 6 series. The permutations keep coming. Buyers of upscale cars want individuality, so we see more movement towards encouraging buyers to custom order their cars.

I don't get it. Hasn't X1 been around for over a year in North America? I"ve been seeing them everywhere here in Canada for ages. Or is it the X1 35i that is just now being released?

That's why the title says "US launch". The x1 has been available in Canada but not in the US so far.

X1 is just now being launched in the US, they held off due to limited production availability and the mid cycle update.
