Tire Wear - Uneven
Hey Guys,
I got new tires a out 3k miles ago. Had an alignment done at the same time. I was in the garage tonight, and it looks like the outside edge, on all 4 tires is wearing unevenly. It almost looks like a motorcycle tire on a race track. It's not letting me attach photo's anymore, but I wanted to see if anyone else has had this issue. 2014 e84 35i, 52k miles. I'll try and post photo's tomorrow. |

Outside edge wear? Could be excessive toe-in, could be excessive positive camber, could be low tire pressures, but that usually wears both edges.

Do not trust that the alignment was correct. Get it rechecked.
However, be aware that if you go back to place that did it, they may claim it was done right but driving caused the issued. |

Thanks for the fast replies everyone. Turns out, it is inside and outside wear. But my tire pressures are right on the money.
Door tag says 36 and 41. And I'm at 35/41. I'll post a picture in a minute. But maybe I need to bump the pressures up just a little? Maybe - psi per tire. All four tires have the same kind of wear. They only have 4k miles on them. If that. |

photo of the outside edge (sorry for the delay, the image hosting site I've been using for a decade has decided to start charging).
It looks like this photo posted, so I'm going to get another one of the inside edge tomorrow during the day. Sorry, I can't seem to get a good photo with the LED lighting in the garage at night. View post on imgur.com |

So they are 35/41 when you check in morn before driving?
Also, you should have some arrow or mark on sidewall showing where the scrubbing can go no further. My Michelins PS4S have a triangle with a MIchelin guy waving. One should put enough air for scrub mark to be in that center. Get a cheap tread depth gauge, and measure the depth of tread. I just measured my Michelins at 7k miles and on drivers left front they went from 9/32 new to 8.5 on both sides and 8 in the center. I had 39 hot in that tire and 34.5 cold so lowered to 38 hot and 33.5 cold. The measurement showed I lost 1/32 in center which would be from slight over inflated. |

I think you are referring to that slight scrub on tread edges?
That's just a little scrubbing from front cornering, and everyone gets that much. Your tread hasn't worn enough to see if the pressure is right, but if you watch and meaSURE with tread depth gauge for 5k miles, I think you'll see that you are on high side of inflation by 2 psi or so. I see a nib still visible on center left tread block, so tires are wearing very good for 4k miles. |

I did add 2/3 psi extra a couple of weeks back because I was thinking they might be under inflated causing excess scrubbing. |

Your tires haven't worn enough to see any bad wear pattern.
Buy a tread depth gauge, and measure the 4 big grooves across tire every 5k miles being careful not to measure on a wear bar nub. |
