Cooling fan trouble shoot?

Hey Guys!

I recently had an engine hot warning message while idling waiting for takeout food. After I started driving it back home the message went away, which lead me to suspect that the water pump and thermostat were not the culprits.

I installed Bimmerlink on my phone and ran the error messages and there were no error messages about water pump, so I was relieved. I also put the water pump in the Bimmerlink dashboard and I can see it running, which is good!

Now, I have seen that the cooling fan is not activating... not when the car was warm, not when I turned AC on, or even the heater.

Is there a way of troubleshooting the cooling fan to see if I can make it work again before buying a new one?

Thanks!

So I went ahead and purchased a new fan/shroud combo... I’ll report back if that ends up working =]

check the thermostatic switch and relay first... Apply 12 volts to the fan to see if it runs...THen you can eliminate the fan

Soooo I got my fan today and as I’m detaching it I realized it wasn’t working because it was impacted by a piece of trim... took the trim out, put everything back together and tested the car and it’s working perfect, no overheating issues, temps are fine, water pump not overworked
