Fobs are evil. It opens and locks doors but car won't start unless plugged in
Hi Folks,
I have scanned the old threads and couldn't find one that matched my issue, so I decided to post. I have a 2014 35i m-sport with the Premium Package that includes Comfort Access keyless entry. My fobs work to unlock and lock the X1 no problem. My problem is when you try to start the car with the fob in your pocket, it doesn't recognize it is there. If I plug the fob into the car it will work. What I have tried: . I have tried this with the my 2 fobs I have with same results. . I have replaced the batteries in both fobs with same results . I have replaced the X1's battery . I have tried the Press and hold the "Unlock" button and press the Lock button 3 times with the same results. . I have tried resetting the fobs by using the plugging them in procedure. Anyone have an idea what may be going on? Mike B |

When you say the fobs work to lock/unlock the car, do you mean without pressing a button on fob ie the comfort access way? I just went through process where both comfort access and keyless start did not work. I found a fuse had blown due to a short in the passenger door handle basically disabling all comfort access features. By disconnecting both front door handles (connectors) and replacing the fuse I got the keyless start back to work and also the comfort access on the rear hatch. Ordered and installed a pair of new front door handles and everything works again as intended.
