Service Engine Soon - illogic

2014 - X1 2.8i X-Drive

"Service Engine Soon" light is ON. No codes on the OBD2

Time for an oil change - code generated - Light goes OUT.

Change oil - clear the oil change code - light goes ON.

It's like the light is in "reverse" or "illogic".

Any ideas out there before the dealer?

did you do an oil change and forget ot put back in the filter housing fitting? Common on these cars. If not, then just FYI when you pull off the oul filter housing lid, theres a apiece attached to it that the filter goes over, a lot of shops (idiots) will pull the filter off with this piece and just plop a filter into the housing and screw it back on.

Thanks - but that's not it.

I think I might have found it. Monitoring live codes I found an intermittent "thermostat open" code that was fleeting and would then go away.

I disconnected, cleaned and reseated the sensor plugs and...... maybe that got it.

I'll know in a day or so.

Looks like thermostat is on the way. Inquire dealer for failing thermostat free replacement campaign.
