Is the 5 Series seat bigger than the 3 Series seat?
Hi all.
I have a big rear end, and the M340i is a bit tight for me. Are the seats in the 5 series wider, taller, longer? I can't seem to find any specs on the actual seat size for either car. The internet only has leg room and shoulder room, not the actual dimensions of the seats themselves. I’m trying to avoid driving out to the dealership just to sit in it.

the other difference with the 5 is that the cabin size is bigger and feels more spacious. I know this is not directly related to the size of the seat but I found myself feeling less confined in the 5 than I did in the 3.
As previous post - there are different seats available so worth testing them all out. |

If you can afford to do so, if seating is important to you, the comfort seats generally get a good write up here on these forums.
They are not much more than the normal or Malory seats if those are species up with full electrics and lumbar support included. As everyone says try them out for your self so you are sure you are happy with them. I think the comfort seats may possibly go up higher than the others (subject to confirmation not sure if that's factually correct) Good luck looking, always fun deciding and buying a new car! |

I have one 530e with the base "sport" seats and one with the "multi-contour" seats. I like the sport seats and wife likes the comfort seats. Sport may or may not be wider, but they definitely have higher bolsters. I had a rental 330i in England with the "sport" seats and they were narrower than those in my 530e--to the point of discomfort for my 220# frame.

Agree with the comments above. Go try them out, especially on an extended test drive if possible. I sold BMWs for seven years and have owned many. I have had the Multi Contour seats in my 5 series cars (2) since 2010. They are excellent and infinitely adjustable. I would not own a 5 series without them. Many of my clients agreed. Only minor drawback when ordering is that if you want ventilated seats there are only a few colors available. Otherwise i strongly recommend them. --Bob

As others have said, make that trip and drive to a dealership. You see posts all of the time of people who got a car only to find out the seats are terrible in their opinion. After you've sat in different cars check back in with how they felt to you. It would be interesting to get your opinion. It's a hot topic.
