House Tour - Strangest Thing You've Encountered?

So the wife and I are house shopping. Hit up some open houses last weekend and right off the bat things got weird.

Toured this nice little house on a quiet street. All seemed normal until we hit the “laundry room” which was about 16’ x 16’, wall to wall tile. There was a stacked washer and dryer shoved in the corner (because when you have 256 sqft of laundry room you had better stack that washer and dryer to save room). Windows had mirrored film on them to block out all light. No laundry table. No shelves. Nothing else in the room OTHER than a huge jetted bathtub that could fit 3 people that was up on a raised pedestal about 3 feet off the ground. Oh, and a drain in the middle of the tile floor and an outdoor style hose spigot INSIDE the room with a hose and sprayer attached. WTF?! Presumably there were activities in there that involved the tub and required hosing the room down afterwards?

I amused myself for about 10 minutes inspecting the walls and ceiling for signs of "attachment" points for ropes, chains, etc. Sadly came up empty there, but I still suspect naughty activities going down in there.

So how about it? Anyone else encounter any funny, weird, creepy, things while touring an open house?

Hmmm... Once I opened a closet to find an impressive assortment of BDSM items, masks, whips etc etc..

Another house, and this will date me, the home had a TV in the bedroom with a large assortment of VCR tapes below. Being the curious SOB I am I looked closer only to see they were an impressive collection of porn tapes...

Weird/creepy enough? Needless to say we did not purchase either home!

We looked at a house that had a master bedroom suite separated from the living room by French doors. All glass. Right off the foot of the bed. And the bathroom in the suite only had short saloon doors with the crapper facing straight into the short hallway from the bedroom. Privacy was obviously not a major requirement of the original owner.

I've encountered something like that too!

My wife and I went over to her boss' house for dinner once. This as about 15 years ago at a place she no longer works at. Her boss and the boss' husband were giving us a tour of their house. In the middle of the bedroom (which was painted teal blue and had hand painted marine life on the walls, like you're in an under the ocean scene), facing the bed, was a toilet. No walls around it or anything. it was F'ing weird. Like you're sitting there taking a dump, facing your partner whose in the bed. WTF. Her boss was all "Oh, yeah, when you've been married as long as we have there's no secrets or privacy. You two will understand one day." Hmm, yeah, been together 20 yers and still don't understand that one!

I sell real estate for a living...
If anything I have learned in my career. It is never be surprised by anything and don’t look in people’s drawers/closets. On the other hand, if you are selling your house...HIDE that stuff!

I will say the craziest things though I have dealt with so far have been: a very small dog that was supposed to be “friendly” trying to attack me (I’m a dog person, it just hates me and my clients, they didn’t buy that one)
A condo that was a studio with the bed suspended from the ceiling (that must be a fun ladder to climb after a night drinking)
A transaction where my clients were trying to buy the owners goats and chickens
And selling a house where the previous owner had been murdered in the house... needless to say I’m pretty sure her spirit haunted me and the owner the entire transaction cause some very weird stuff went down while the house was for sale...

Did the owner work as a landscaper, sewage treatment plant operator, garbage truck driver, or septic tank cleaner? Maybe run a dog grooming business out of the house? My friend who owns a muddy junkyard actually has an outdoor shower at his house, so he doesn't track "work" into his house at the end of the day.....

Not sure the location of the room to the outside, but some friends of ours have something like that...and it's used as kind of a "mud room" for washing their two huge dogs. (Newfoundland's)

My wife's coworker invited us over for dinner a few years ago. During the house tour everything looked very normal until we got to the basement. They had decided to turn an 800 sqft space into a seventies disco hall. It was wall to cielings covered in mirrors, green shag carpeting, and of course several disco balls hanging. They also had a juke box and a huge bar covered in purple velvet. It actually looked pretty cool but they spent a lot of money to recreate the whole effect which I thought was kind of strange.

Pffft. You two dudes are soooooo sensible.

Yeah, that totally could be it. The laundry room had a door that took you straight outside to the driveway. It would be an awesome setup if you had a couple huge dogs.

It is funny how soo many people do not understand that your house must be staged perfectly or you risk scaring away sensitive buyers. Details like porn tapes or odd decorations should never stop someone from buying a house but it does.

Even if someone was murdered in the house. Who gives a crap! At the worst you have a great story.

When we were looking at homes a long time ago we went into one house that allocated a bedroom to making homemade ammunition. The closet was full of ammo as were shelves along the wall, and there was a thick layer of black powder embedded in the carpet. The owners were at least in their 70s, if not 80s.

This is so true! And just to clarify it was not the porn collection that kept us from buying that house... if anything I was a little envious! . But that kind of stuff should be placed out of sight when trying to sell a house.

No crazy stories to share with buying or selling, but in my 20's I was a repo guy. I've seen some shit man.

Went into a guys home (single-wide trailer) once. This morbidly obese guy wearing only a pair of gym shorts, was laying on a mattress, with no sheets, on the floor and was sweating profusely. None of the electrical outlets or light switches had covers on them. After he finally got off the mattress and came outside to talk with me and my partner, as he walked toward the door the sweat from his chest made contact with a light switch. He then indicated that it shocked him, but he wasn't bothered by it. in fact, the noise that he made wasn't one of discomfort. (My stomach turns thinking about this.) After my partner and I finished our business, we went back to the door to have him sign the paperwork only to find him rubbing his nipple against the light switch that was shocking him. He was having way too much fun with it.

We also encountered our share of strippers who had no shame. These stories are best suited for another thread.

Murder room in a new construction in Dallas.

All tile. Industrial grade drain. 2 ceiling spigots. Electric sockets 4 feet high, 3 or 4 to a wall all around the room. The original buyer disappeared and it was put on the market by the builder. Huge concessions. Gave us both the chills.

Nice garden out back, in the center of the yard, right where I was thinking a pool or maybe a nice garage/shop could be built. Walked out there and sure enough, it was a well maintained grave (human, not for a pet). Nope.

I'll certainly have to see if I can find a picture - my friend surely took one.

Inlaid in the floor in the center of a room was a tile mural representing fertilization of an egg. It was a round thing probably four feet in diameter with an egg in the center and a ton of sperm swimming to the center.

It was...artistic.

Some of these ladies, none of them were unattractive, were all too willing to invite us inside. My partner with this job was my best friend and, as mentioned, we were in our 20's; and these women loved to flirt with us thinking we wouldn't take their stuff. They were wrong.

There was one lady who invited us inside, wearing nothing but a white wife beater that you could practically see through. The partner and I sat on the couch, she sat in front of us indian style in the floor directly in front of us. As we discussed our business with her and explained that we were taking her stuff, she actually wasn't very upset about it. Rather than throw a fit, as most did, she turned around, on her knees, with her ass up in the air, again, nothing but a wife beater on; turned on her stereo, that was under the TV in the entertainment center, lit a joint and began to smoke it. The two of us looked at each other, trying to figure out what her game plan was, then she began to give us a show. We let her finish her joint and her show, thanked her; then had her sign our paperwork, proceeded to repo her shit and left.

I'm sure that entire scenario could have gone down differently and I'm sure that was her game plan, but we remained professional. We assumed that had we partaken in her game, that it would have ultimately resulted in the loss of our gainful employ. In the end, we did nothing wrong, got a free show and did our jobs. Twas a good day.

I've derailed the topic enough. Back to bizarre home stories.

Found it!

It was DNA in the center with both black AND white sperm. About 4-5 feet across.

EDIT: Also found a picture of the outside. If you look close at the railing, you'll see that they are cut into sperm shapes as well.

Friend was going to UGA and her downtown apartment got purchased by someone else planning on leveling it with little notice, so she needed a place quick. I think she lived here for like a month before finding a real place

This was in a home? I could see this possibly being in a fertility clinic, but in a home? That's just odd.
