Engines built between 6/2012 and 2/2015 have the extended coverage (7/70K).
However engines built in 2012-13 have a much higher risk. Starting in 2014 (or maybe even late 2013) BMW changed the design of the plastic timing change guide which significantly reduced the problem. I have a 2014 that was built in mid-2013, so I know I fall in the suspect range. That said, I cannot say that I am losing any sleep over this. Have people experienced the issue... absolutely, will whatever comes out of the current lawsuit impact what I do with the car when I am beyond the 7/70K coverage... yes! But given how many reports there have been I'm guessing it is in the low single digit failure rate range. Anything much higher and there would have already been much more significant activity. Just as an added note, failure analysis & failure statistics is a big part of what I do in my profession.

I just purchased a replacement engine from a 2014 with 105k kms (60-ish miles) and there was significant slack in the chain. Guides already had grooves from the chain.
