How are the Headlamp Assemblies removed?
I have purchased a 06/2014 sDrive20i MSport and wanted to change the halogen headlamp globes for brighter ones.
Considering how difficult it seems to be to work in such tight spaces, blind, I wondered if might be easier to remove the whole assembly and do it on the bench. I can't find any threads or videos on headlamp assembly removal, so tried removing the two top screws and the top rubber seal. The assembly appears quite loose but does not want to come out. Does the whole front bumper need to be removed? Last edited by TitanSilverE46; 10-10-2017 at 11:32 PM.. Reason: spelling |

Finally took the front wheel off so I could see in there and can't for the life of me work out how the H7 low beam globes are released.
Here are photos of what I see both with and without the connection plug. Anyone seen anything like this before, and more importantly, how do they come out? |

Not sure about that one honestly. Working in that space can be really tight and difficult.
The bumper removal is really not horrible (there is a youtube E84 demo video that is nicely done). A few of the 10m fasteners are hard to reach but not that bad. My tips for R&R: 1. Have the rivets available: 10 at least to re-attach fender 2. Have some pare u-clips for the T30 torx fasteners that may bend/break when removing. check parts diagram on getbmwparts or similar to see what I am saying: two top fasteners in engine bay use them for example. My 2014 had issues with 3 of the 10 or so to remove 3. If you have headlamp washers, pull up and remove top plastic clips Once off, the headlamp can easily be rotated if you need to. Removing fully will require plugging/clamping washer lines if you have them, otherwise big puddle (BTDT). - b |

Looking at the picture you provided. You will notice 2 tabs or clips, one on the left and one on the right. They are clips that you can depress so that the base of the lamp is released. On the reverse when installing you just need to line up the small on tab on top with the indentation on the light housing and the clips will snap and all is aligned and locked in place. My 2 cents.
