Grill Swap

Thinking of getting black grills for my X1.

It doesn't look like they are very difficult to swap out, but has anyone here done this and do you have any feedback on the process?

I did on our buggy. Fairly easy to do. It has been long enough I can not remember what I did but no special tools were needed.

Getting the old ones out sucks. I spent about 15 minutes trying to get all the tabs to pop out before I said fuck it and just cut the grill slats out then pulled the tabs. Not like you're going to get anything trying to sell them and frankly it's not worth the 40 bucks you might get back trying to swap the old ones back in and selling the black ones.

I was able to swap mine without cutting anything. You can put your hand behind the bumper if you pull it hard from the top (you have to remove the torx screws first). It got some flex, more than you think so I was able to unclip from there. Some people made custom tool with a coat hanger, but I wasn’t able to unclip anything that way!

You should be able to pull the top back once you remove the torx screws at the top front of the bumper. It looks so much better once you finished swapping them.
