+1. i'd strongly consider that over the 1er(cheaper and more mpg) if it's well executed.

Toyota lost me a long time ago. They used to build legit stuff in the 80's and 90's, but then they obviously just stopped caring. The latest model Celicas were retarded looking. The latest model MR2 was a joke on several levels. The MKV Supra should have been here by now...

Brandon, I agree. Toyota has really lost all of us. Hopefully this means they now care.

I did like the MR2 Spyder. Not enough to buy, though, fwiw.

It's not that Toyota stopped caring, they just changed their focus to being the biggest. You don't get to be the biggest by making the cars that are appealing to a group of enthusiasts. Apparently you get to be biggest by making reliable appliances.

yeah toyota has been muckin it up *cough*IS350 but the objective of 'Entry Level Sports Car’ + RWD + boxer + smallish chassis sounds fucking fantastic. its the same thing as the 1er. everybody knows there's a growing part of the population that is after practicality but wants a small, sporty, efficient car. the 3 series grew out of that and the IS did too. celica? i dont quite know what to say about that.. but if they make that and really try to make it a driver's car that would be fantastic. plus toyota reliability and efficiency that will be hard to match.. mmmm

PS. 2mil yen is like $17k USD ..that seems pretty cheap. i just hope auto manufacturers are moving into the mindset that cheap cars dont have to drive poorly. spend the money on chassis/suspension/engine and 86 the bullshit. keeps the weight down anyway.

I agree. I hope they get it right--unlike the new xB.

FWIW, the original rumor (which specified a toyota inline 4) said the target price was $12,200...
