Le Mans Blue Sdrive photo log

Hi, thought I would post pics of the x1 as a little diary.

Below are pictures of when we first got it and installed OEM 437m from the m3. With Stock suspension and alignment, it fits perfect. Strut clearance was close but had adequate space.

We shortly decided to lower the vehicle. We ended up using e9x components as there aren't much selection for x1. The sdrive is nearly identical to the e90 red with exception of a few things. Below, we installed e9x knuckles with e90 koni yellow. I purchased e92 335i D7 spring as they are the stiff oem and used e93 m3 rear spring in the rear. We also installed 513m wheels from an f80 m3. I initially installed ST shocks from their Coilovers kit, but felt they were too soft.

For the most part, this set up was great for the daily purpose in terms of ride quality and feel. I was pretty happy with the height as well.

NOTE: the e90 knuckles are 1.5" lower than x1 knuckles

With the new suspension and stickier tires, I found myself pushing the car more. And started to feel that the suspension was too soft. This time, we converted the suspension to Coilovers using e90 sleeve kits. I ended up running 325 lbs Front and 650 lbs rear, which is relatively soft(I have ran 8k/16k on similar set up before). I currently have it at 1.5 turns on the front and 0.75 turns for the rear on the konis. We also swapped the front brakes with 335i rotors and calipers.

Lastly, we installed wheels from an m-sport f10 wheels with 12mm spacers front/ 15mm spacers rear.

Next up was the front tension arms and sway bar. The e90 m3 front sway bar will not fit as they don't have the extra bend to clear the EPS motor. I ended up using a eibach bar as they're intended to be used on 1-series e8x with EPS. As for the tension arms, I've decided to go with m3 arms as their bushings are much beefier and are identical in length. Installation was easy as the wheels don't need to come off.

These two mods really sharpened up the turn-in characteristic of the car. It no longer feels top heavy.

With the front end sorted up, I wanted to address the squishy rear. I ended up installing subframe inserts for an e90. All the inserts fit fine except for the rear-top position, mainly because the voids are much smaller and bushing lip is larger on the e84 bushing. I ended up not installing this particular insert. I don't think this will have a negative effect as that particular bushing at the rear is much beefier already.

Installed the 437m 19x10 square just to try it out. I have a 12mm spacer in the front to clear the strut and 15mm spacer in the rear to match the front. So Far I am liking the stance and the extra front end grip. I might keep it like this for now

Next mod would be the rear sway bar and the rear brakes. I'll probably wait until the rear pads are worn tho

Beautiful car you have there. I also own a 2014 sdrive 28i but in Deep Sea Blue Metallic. Man, I'm jealous of your ongoing process with the wheels, brakes and the stance.

Nice car! Cosmetically we're almost twins. Mine sits at a very similar height on KW V1 coilovers. I don't see very many Lemans blue M-sports around.

Upgrade to a 20mm Whiteline rear bar for an E90, you won't be disappointed.

Added some DIY bracing using OEM rivnuts and aluminum bar stock. Definitely feels tighter and bumps feel more muted. It seems this is very popular to do on e90 and e88.

I've been doing a project similar to this except with an XDrive35i....its been a bit of a headache. Rear axles not being the right length, and rear brake upgrade not working. Now the last part is the wheel speed/ABS sensors. E84 sensors don't work and cause lots of codes, and I am not sure which ones will fit....does anyone have any ideas?

Loving the stance, I'm thinking of going the same route and just wondering when you fitted the e9x knuckle was there any modifications required?

I'm thinking of reusing my e84 struts again but afaik, the e84 struts are bigger and wont fit the e9x knuckle yea?
