Doubtful but it would be nice to see it retain more value or start to appreciate at some point.

I friffin love mine. $ for $, in terms all you get, the best you can buy.
I mean....I just bought a 2015 xdrive with sport seats, 18k miles for 20k. I can rip thru the mountain roads, then go up the side of one (theoretically). All while hauling our bikes and weeks worth of camping gear.... Love it love it love it. |

E46 m3 maybe, not e46 323
I think all m cars have their pros and cons and fans and will always be interesting to hang on to. As for the non M cars, I don't see it. E46 325 wagon and E93 328 wagon with MT and sport package aren't really classics so I don't see a 4000lb SUV with automatic being that sought after |

I think it very well could be. It reminds me in a lot of ways of the old 318is with there truncated rear ends a little quirky but hands like a dream. It also evoques a bit of the M-Coupe look. They are correct in it being the last of the traditional BMWs. In particular the 35i harkens back to many of the great smaller BMWs of the past.

Definitely a cult classic. I will sell you mine for $40k. Low mileage at just 119k. They do not make this like this anymore. Let’s start a bidding war.
No, it will not be a cult classic. Maybe if it had a Manuel tranny like kilo said. |

Would be nice. Not sure that will happen here in the UK, with diesel X1's I think being more common. Had mine for 6.5 years, the longest I've ever owned a car. However, it's only a 2.0 Diesel. Don't think we got any petrol X1's here until a bit later.
Great car. Mine's a XDrive manual, but as I said a diesel, sob. |

Wikipedia says the E84 X1 sold 820,529 units. Started in 2009 but wasn’t introduced to the US until 2012. The 35i has a better shot at gaining cult status, but we’ll see. It would be nice to know how many produced were 35i but on a quick search I couldn’t find it. There was almost nothing better about the F48 when I drove it. I plan to keep and drive mine as long as possible. I love it.

I've read a lot about it being fugly, but I actually love it's looks (beauty is in the eye of the beholder, after all). The new X1 looks just like the X3/X5, the E84 is quite distinctive. |

I have a 2014 x1 '35 M Sport edition with the coral red interior and even at the local BMW dealership they always mention how much they love this car and how rarely they see it
Will it be a cult classic , probably not, is it super fun to drive and one of the last BMW 6 cylinders (unfortunately not naturally aspirated) without the floaty feel they all seem to have now |
