Since the UNIVERSITY owned slaves, and it's a private university, shouldn't that come out of THEIR pockets, not the current/future students?

There is no student loan crisis, their a stupity crisis, AOC is a perfect example of this, why did she attend college just to become a bartender and an elected offical? Neither profession need an over price piece of paper. On top of that as someone who has hire quite a few people running my company I've come to the conclusion judging people on a college degree is worthless and I should only judge them on their real experience and drive.

I am going to avoid talking about the actual subject and discuss the efficiency. This is one of our top universities and they spent months coming up with a structure and voting on this.

They could have spent an hour coming up with a good gofundme page and moved on.

Georgetown, a private Catholic institution, has attempted to make amends over the past few years for its historical connection to slavery. In 1838, the school sold 272 slaves to pay off its debts. In April 2017, it officially apologized for the sale of human beings.

I'm going to start off by saying I am not assuming anyone's race, your intent for asking the question, or your point of view on the issue, and my tone in my response is not hostile or attacking anyone, just trying to contribute to the conversation With that said...

With all due respect, what does being black have to do with this? Slavery was abolished in the US in 1865, 154 years ago. I can say with 100% confidence that absolutely nobody who is alive in this country today has been a slave, or a child of a slave as a result of the U.S. slave trade prior to the Civil War. We're talking grandparents of grandparents at the very least at this point. The reason I am bringing this up is because I don't see how a black person has anything more valuable to contribute to this conversation than anyone else does. Anyone can "imagine" being a slave. Which means all people can relate to the issue equally.

Yes, slavery was terrible. It's a great thing it was abolished. 154 years ago. But I don't see what this fee is supposed to accomplish besides giving money to essentially a random subset people based on an arbitrary condition that was met. Almost like pre-selecting lottery winners. Which is why this fee is ridiculous, and that's not even getting into issues like who to collect from, how much to collect, and how to determine to whom and how much to pay out.
