There is a huge resource pool for maintenance, troubleshooting and repairs for our cars thanks in part to being a parts bin model. You can search engine info from the f-series forums and chassis/suspension info from the e-series forums.
Apart from electronics, the X1 isn't too hard to work on considering they stuff a 4 cylinder N20 in an engine bay designed for a 6-cylinder N52 engine. Lots of space!

At least you 'upgraded.' I'm given the impression going from my previous 2016 MINI Countryman S to my current 2014 X1 xDrive 28i was a "downgrade." I'd like to believe not. Besides, the X1 only had 27,800 miles when I purchased her.

I did buy an additional 5 years 76k miles platinum plan (exclusionary/ bumper to bumper). However, I didn't buy the extended maintenance plan.

Here she is.

131K, mostly highway, no major repairs. Brake pads at 100k, 2 sets of tires, new windshield once. Oil change every 10k. This car still feels like new, no rattles. Best car I have ever owned.

Garage List
Maintenance plans are laughable at best for what they cover. Just do your own, don't pay interest on a maintenance plan.

Thanks for the feedback. It's always good to know there are x1s with high miles yet still reliable. Good words if encouragement.

Kevman, any timing chain or water pump issues ? I just purchased a 2014 x1 sdrive 28i with 48,000 miles. All loaded up with the ultimate package. I'v looked under the oil fill cap at the timing chain and so fare so good no chain stretch. Build date of 08/13 so its in the year of possible timing chain issues.

At rest, the chain is somewhat loose. Tightens up when engine is running. The issue is not the timing chain. It's with the plastic chain guides.
While it's tough to attribute the main reason why the guides break (statistically it is very very very small), some ways to prevent it is fresh oil changes and stop using ASS.

No issues with water pump or timing belt at all. Car is not worth that much on a trade at this point, so I will just keep her until problems start arising. Like I said still feels brand new, running perfect.

Thanks you all for the input. The two previous owners on average dealer changed the oil at around 9000 miles. I purchased the car from an acquaintance so I know part of the vehicle history. My commute is less than 5000 miles a year so I will be on a 12 month oil change interval. interestingly enough, the dealer oil change i just paid for consisted of BMW 0w30, and a can of BG MOA Extended life synthetic oil fortifier.

I'm considering doing an oil change every 5k. It's excruciatingly HOT in SW Florida.

I had a salesman from fcpeuro.com email me and stated the 5qt jug is all I'd need for my car. For some odd reason, I'm under the impression I need more than 5qt.

Any comments on this brand of oil and on the capacity?
