From what i've read, that is a really good brand and model! I am not huge case junkie so I don't know enough to speak from experience on the S340, but I also respect the analyses from Gamersnexus.

That said, I really feel that the most important thing to do for setting up good thermals is to test out the fan orientations by looking at both CPU and GPU temps under load conditions. Flipping fan directions in one place and not another, for example can result in very large differences in operating temps. It took me a while to get the best result for my case and configuration (depends on air cooling vs water cooling and TDP, etc etc).

As for the hardware, I think you're going to have a lot of fun with that rig for years to come! I will ask you to consider one thing though - if you only game and don't do content creation or anything that needs lots of threads, you may want to consider going with an overclockable i5 and upgrade the M.2 drive to a 1TB capacity so you have less to worry about in the future. You could also bridge the cost gap further if you go with a less expensive but still overclockable and very high quality motherboard if you pick your features carefully.

Obviously only you can assign value with the knowledge of your specific needs and budget, so take this suggestion as just that!

Wait, you mentioned "small form factor" in your case question - do you mean you're willing to consider an mATX or m-ITX mobo? Or did you mean just a smaller but still standard ATX case?

I just gave it a bump! Glws!

Which ti are you going with?

I changed yet again. I figure since I am getting an Asus mobo I should get an Asus gfx card in order to take advantage of arus. I know I know lol.

I ended up going with the ntxz 340 Elite in black.

Thanks for all of the feedback!

It's ok. I bet the guys who bought the titan X are crying bad.
If this trend continues the Volta GPU is probably right around the corner.

I hope the Volta will be a worthy competitor. These gpu prices are insane!

Then again it is because of my Nvidia stock that I own BMW. So I don't want to bit the hand that feeds!

Strategically, nvidia has been wiping the floor with AMD. But now with Ryzen I am quite curious to see what Volta actually brings to the table. I have to say that the RX5X0 generation leaves me with a bad taste in my mouth... kinda feels inauthentic.

Thanks dude!

I take it you're getting the Strix?

I am either going to get an EVGA SC black edition, or I'm going to either build or buy a Hybrid EVGA. The only other card I'm considering due to slightly better air cooled thermals is MSI's Gaming X offering.

The rest of the cards out there just look too garish to me.

Totally agree. My frametimes are just fine, but I'm stupid.

Actually I take that back. There is a bit of a method to this madness. In the quest of a quieter, cooler PC, I am considering the Ti model specifically so I can DOWNclock it a bit (or at least hold back the GPU boost 3.0) so that it runs much much cooler, while still performing better than my standard 1080. I run an ultrawide monitor so I don't need 4k levels of pixel pushing.

Thoughts on my logic here? Am I a crazy fool?

Correct this one: ASUS ROG-STRIX-GTX1080TI-11G-GAMING GeForce11GB VR Ready 5K HD Gaming HDMI DisplayPort DVI PC GDDR5X Graphics Card

I've come to realize you can't go wrong on any of these cards. Comes down to warranty and looks.

I made the horrible mistake of searching youtube reviews on the nzxt 340s elite case. Of course someone had the same mobo (Asus Hero) in the case. They then demoed the arus feature. I had no idea this stuff existed! When I built my last PC, seven or so years ago, I used an Antec 900 case. Was not concerned in the slightest about anything other than neatly routing cables. But WOW this stuff has come a very long way!

A couple of questions about the hybrid if I may...

1- is that the hybrid card that you can buy from Evga, or the cooling kit + an FE card?
2- how quiet is it at full tilt? How about compared to an AIB aircooled card?
