Heated side mirrors ?
For those of you that already have your X1's do they have heated side mirrors that work in conjunction with the rear defroster. Reading through the Owners manual I see no mention of this.

I don't think so. The Cold Weather package only includes heated front seats, heated steering wheel, and retractable headlight washers. I have the cold weather package and there doesn't appear to be any buttons for this.
If it's any consolation I'll say that I've lived in the north (Boston and Seattle) all my life and I've never had much use for the feature in previous vehicles that had it. |

They come with the cold weather package and they are always heated, regardless of outside temperature. Same for the washer nozzles and drivers door lock.

From page 49 of the owners manual (.pdf). Standard on all versions of X1:
Automatic heating Depending on the external temperature, both exterior mirrors are automatically heated when the engine is running or the ignition is switched on. Vince. |

Good point, I forgot that they finally put an outside temperature check into the system. For years, BMW's have just heated the mirrors, windshield and headlight squirters and door locks, regardless of outside temp. It was funny to feel my door lock or mirrors on my old M Coupe when it was 110 degrees out and they were still being heated.
I think they made the change around 2007 or 2008. |

Nice...considering there is no cold weather package for M Sport owners.

The cold weather package consists of two things: Heated front seats, and a heated steering wheel. M-Sport buyers can still get heated front seats, even if there isn't an M-branded steering wheel with heat.

In my X1 Owners manual it is on page 47 indicating the Automatic Heating as Vince states above. I live in Chicago and I did notice that snow did not stick around too long on the outside mirrors. The X1 climate control this winter in my opinion is excellent.

The rear window deicer is also a tad on the slow and small side, but if I understand it correctly, it doubles as the radio antenna, so I guess that puts a limit to the size and heat. Otherwise, it's a pretty good winter car. Drives well too. To the point that it's easy to forget how heavy it is, and that it won't stop on a dime |

•Retractable headlight washers •Heated Steering Wheel •Heated front seats I have no need for the headlight washers but heated steering wheel would have been nice for cold mornings. I had to settle for heated seats only with my M Sport. How will I ever survive this Southern California climate? |

My x1 heated mirrors don't appear to work. Even when the car notifiies me that it's 37* outside with the snow symbol, the mirrors stay fogged up and don't clear.
Now that I know the door locks are heated, I'm going to try and see if they are warm when I get home on the next cold day. Thanks for the information, guys! |

The other day at 37* without the wipers on, they did not defog quickly. I wish there was just a damned button. I'm going to do some searching, someone has turned them off automatic and made them run of the rear window defogger button, I'm sure, because this malarkey is crazy. |
