Cold start issues

Hello, I drive a 2014 X1 x28i
I am experiencing issues on cold starts where the vehicle is loud and feels like it will stall(see video links below)Any starts after the 1 st start is fine and runs normally.

I have uploaded videos to:

Vimeo.com/272041314
Vimeo.com/272104272

I have taken it to the dealership and they have scanned it with no issues/errors and their only solution is to update the software and even implying that this is normal for BMW x1.

I have also checked the battery and is has a good charge and not an issue
Any help is appreciated !

Battery or fuel pump. I know you said battery is fine, but that hesitation while the starter cranks is usually a sign of low starting amps, yes it probably hits 14.xx but the cranking means its loosing its initial push. The weird starting is usually a sign of a failing fuel pump because it cant prep the lines fast enough on a cold start.

I just went thru the above scenario, I could be wrong, but thats what fixed it for me. I did new plugs, pump and battery. All better now.

Could also be the Vanos solenoid. It is a common failure of the e84's and can affect idling during cold start.

The problem is not a stumble on startup. The car just runs poorly for first 30sec. If you try to drive away too quick it chokes and coughs like an old carb setup in the cold. It will even occasionally stall. Only happens in the cold.

Did you connect Ista-D to check any code errors? When mu X1 28i did that I had a misfire error from the cylinder #2, I replaced the spark plug and the trouble was gone. The car had 58 000 km and was the original set of spark plug

I had the same issue in the cold. Start the vehicle and runned poorly. If I put it in Reverse right away it was worse as required more effort from the engine. The issue was there the first 30-40 seconds. However, once started to drive it was ok, so not sure if we have the exactly same issue, but I think it is.
Anyway,
Went to the dealership several times for the problem. Nothing found.
After several similar complaints form other clients my mechanic found the problem: the gasoline.
I always buy the 91 Shell.
He suggested the higher 94 octane from other providers like PetroCanada and Esso (Shell doesn’t have it).
He was right. As soon as I put 94 the issue was gone. All the customers that complained with this problem -including M vehicles- solved the issue with a higher octane. All of them complained about the same behaviour in cold.

Hope it helps!

I always put 91 Octane fuel from Costco on my X1 or M4 and I don't have any issue. I put the 93 octane only when I travel to the US

Same here 91 is ideal but acceleration and power is noticeably different with Petro Canada 94 .
