Starter for X1 vs X3 6 cyl
I live in Aruba and the only place to buy a starter here is from the dealer. They want $700 for a reman. My car is a 2011 X1 with a 3.0L 6 cylinder. I can get one from the States for $150 but no one shows an X1 available in the States, only X3 and above as it appears that the X1 was not sold in the States. Searching online, it seems that the X1 didn't have a 6 cylinder offered.
So, if I buy a starter for an X3 3.0L 6cyl, will it fit my X1 6 cylinder? |

X1 was not available in the USA till 2013, thats why it's not showing up under 2011.
All of these models have the same starter part number: 12417616500 1' E81 (02/2006 — 12/2011) 1' E87 (03/2005 — 02/2007) 1' E87 LCI (01/2006 — 06/2011) 1' E88 (11/2006 — 10/2013) 1' E82 (11/2006 — 10/2013) 3' E90 (02/2004 — 09/2008) 3' E90 LCI (07/2007 — 02/2012) 3' E91 (02/2004 — 08/2008) 3' E91 LCI (07/2007 — 05/2012) 3' E92 (05/2005 — 02/2010) 3' E92 LCI (11/2008 — 06/2013) 3' E93 (09/2005 — 02/2010) 3' E93 LCI (11/2008 — 10/2013) 3' F30 (04/2011 — 07/2015) 3' F31 (08/2011 — 06/2015) 3' F34 GT (07/2012 — 06/2016) 4' F32 (11/2012 — 06/2016) 4' F33 (03/2013 — 06/2016) 4' F36 Gran Coupé (11/2013 — 06/2016) 5' F18 (08/2009 — 08/2013) 5' F18 LCI (10/2012 — 04/2014) X1 E84 (09/2008 — 04/2015) X3 E83 LCI (02/2006 — 08/2010) X5 E70 LCI (04/2009 — 06/2013) X6 E71 (07/2009 — 06/2014) Z4 E85 (10/2004 — 08/2008) Z4 E86 (10/2005 — 08/2008) Z4 E89 (01/2008 — 08/2016) |

By the way, running the VIN shows the car as a X1 X25i 2010/10/25 E84 with a N52K engine and ALLR drive. Or, we can try a different way. A local mechanic rebuilt the starter and installed a new bendix, brushes, solenoid and plunger. The car still won't start sometimes. Hit the starter button and nothing happens. After a bunch of times, it finally starts at which time the starter sounds fine. A diagnostic computer states it is the starter. Do these cars have electrical or computer issues that would affect the starter circuit? Or is the problem probably still the solenoid as this issue sounds like a classic flat spot on the solenoid? |

With you vin you can get the exact specs of your car, then go realoem.com to find the exact part number and see which other model got the same starter. Your car is probablt an european model, the X1 25i was never sold in the US or Canada, only X1 sdrive 28i, X1 drive 28i and X1 xdrive 35i. there are not known electrical issues on the X1

This is listed as an exchange starter, but now I have a definitive list of the exact autos this starter fits including the 2007-2010 X3 3.0 or N52 motor so if need be, I can track one down in the States. Thanks very much for your help. |
