How to remove roof rack plastic cover
SUBJECT: How to remove roof rack plastic cover (in green)
Hello, I am replacing the barrels to the roof rack and need access to behind these plastic covers but I couldn't find any directions on how to remove these covers without breaking them. Are any of you aware of how to remove them? I do not have the original keys The image does not display, can be found here: https://scontent.cdninstagram.com/v/..._nc_sid=10d13b |

I found a solution if you don't have the keys and are replacing the barrels
use a wide flathead screwdriver, apply tons of pressure into the barrel and turn counter clockwise. the lock should twist and cover should pop up with it. ADMIN please pin this somewhere*** I can post a video of this somewhere if needed. |

This is a bad idea, do not do this. I will be very surprised if you have not done permanent damage to your rack in this process.
There is no way around getting a new key set. Either 1) do it first and don't break the rack, or 2) mess around with a screwdriver (no reputable locksmith has ever recommended this), break your barrels and damage the housing, and then pay for new barrels, new keys, and possibly a replacement rack. It's your choice. Thule produced the OEM roof racks for BMW and the little number engraved into the barrel of the lock corresponds to the key type, they're available in stores and online. https://help.thule.com/s/article/I-v...language=en_US |

Just to drill a little hole, get a blank key (little longer) and you will have access to the retaining tab.
Order an original key is the best… |
