BMW X1 Tires - need some help please
I just bought 2014 X1 Xdrive28i about a week ago (My first BMW) with 68000 miles.
I’m not car expert, I was told that I need to replace all the tires! Currently I have installed on my car Continental ContiProContact SSR size: 225/45/R18 91V All weather Run flat tires. What should I do go to BMW and get the same tires it’s about $1175 including the installation and fees or get from Castro Bridgestone - DriveGuard $910 (that’s the only run flat they have for this car). The other options that I see people do is getting non flat tires but i have no idea which one I should get with good performance any advice ? If I do that I guess I will also need to know how to handle flats. I will appreciate any help! |

#1 you do not need to buy your tires from a BMW dealership
#2 you do not need to keep run flat tires (but you do need a flat tire plan if you go away from them) #3 Discount Tire or Tire Rack (if you have time as they are online) are good options. #4 there is a night & day difference in ride between run flats and non run flats (much improved with non run flats)

As for tires themselves, the DriveGuard is reported to be one of the best driving run flats, however it is not a performance tire.
Personally I have and am a fan of the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3+ (non run flat). I carry a plug kit, a tire sealant kit and an air compressor at all times in case of a flat and also have a AAA membership. The Continental ExtremeContact seems to be another non run flat that many people like.

I second the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3+. They are great for wet and dry traction and have been rated pretty well for light snow as well. If you have a Costco membership you can also purchase them there. I bought mine from Tire Rack but will go through Costco next time.

Those are them. Make sure that your setup is square and not staggered.

I got the Driveguard. They may not be a performance tire, but I don't have a problem slinging around corners. Maybe I'm not as aggressive as some, and I don't track the car. They are a bit less harsh than other runflats. I'll consider getting those A/S 3+ next time, but not too happy about having to buy and then find room for a donut. :-(

Hate the noisy expensive rock hard runflats.
Get what you want in a go flat ....many more choices. Can of green slime. AAA for towing ...... this is your belt and suspenders ...... |
