Coolant Low? Check the Expansion tank
after 60k miles and putting coolant in every year, I finally noticed the expansion tank had a crack on the seam.
CHECK your tanks, people that have been adding coolant. Part was 150$ from the dealer, but takes 3 min to replace...dont forget bmw coolant only. You can source a tank for 100 from bmw supply shops online but I was in dire need. http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/show...diagId=17_0322 Last edited by X1Denver; 10-27-2016 at 06:05 PM.. |

From Mike Miller:
It should be noted that I have feedback from a learned and trusted technician who believes that many BMW expansion tank failures result from topping off the coolant to the maximum level or beyond. He recommends filling the cooling system to the minimum level so that the coolant has more room to expand. He says cars that he services exclusively don't have expansion tank problems even after 300,000 miles. |
