Does your trunk rattles?
Hi guys,
I bought a used X1 and just found out that the previous owner installed felt tape and some kind of sticky putty (anybody know what type of material is this? See attached pictures). I was wondering do you guys have some annoying rattle in the trunk caused by the plastic trim? I'm simply wondering if this is a common problem and if I can remove it (at least the putty). Thanks! |

Lol don't think so The X1 is notorious for rattling here and here, so maybe they went crazy and installed this... Good placebo fix.
Will probably remove this if I get a bit more feedback. vstolpner I guess you have the same kind of gap between the car's frame and the plastic part? Thanks! |

I do, drives me nuts! Some of it came from disassembly and things not as tight as original.
I also have a subwoofer back there and a loud mufflerless exhaust to rattle everything loose. I have a mix of electrical tape and dynamat holding things tight to minimize the rattles. |

No rattles in the trunk, even after disassembling and failing to get it back together 100% correctly. Still get lots of pops and clunks up front, for no apparent reason, presumably due to how the plastic trim fits together. A more powerful amp should fix that in the near future.

Mine doesn't really rattle, but it does make a noise when going over bumps while turning.
Is there a way to adjust the bump stopper for the trunk door? Last edited by Douggie; 05-03-2016 at 08:44 AM.. |

The trunk door bump stops are not adjustable unfortunately. I was looking for options and found spring loaded ones for Z3 but people reported they eventually fail.

Sigh. Why didn't they think of this? They have simple but adjustable ones for the hood. That's all we really need.

The hook is adjustable. You need to remove the bottom trim though.
They worn out in time, it is a tight adjustment and one lock for a hatch is not that good, they should put two of them for less movement (like the hood). From what I know, the rubber stoppers are also adjustable. You should tight the hook or buy a new one and replace it. It is not uncommon on hatches including X5's. |

My car never had a problem. I had this very random and rare little rattle in the back. It turns out that the hook gets worn out in time. The tech and service shop foreman said that is adjustable. My option was to buy a new hook and replace it. After that, my wife stated that sometimes the hatch closes only half way. I tried and indeed didn't close properly all the time. Went back and they decided to readjust that hook. I also saw them putting some white paste on these rubber stoppers to see how it touches the door and I saw them playing with them (I looked through a window). I did not tried to see if they can adjust since I don't want to screw up the thing again. I remember exactly that they mentioned to me that they adjusted the hook and after that adjust the stoppers to be properly positioned. I can tell you that they do rotate, for sure. So you need to rotate them clockwise or otherwise for adjustment. But You must have a good lock with the hook. Some guys refer to the rattle as a rubber noise against the hatch. See HERE Mine was a mechanical noise, I new that is that hook, it was worn out too. |
