Much nicer lake and much nicer area. Also, my family owned a summer home near hear since the 1960's that was too small to be a year round home and was let go when my mother passed. This house is a bungalow, a bit smaller but closer to all the amenities.

Many European castles started as fortified structures with wooden walls and were converted to stone and enlarged over many years.

Chateau de Pierrefonds in Picardy, France, is no exception and is a thousand years old. It was restored in the 19th century.

I think almost all of the castles fell into disrepair or were heavily damaged -- many in the Napoleonic Wars -- so that what we see today is largely less than 200 years old.
