74k miles now and this week dealer replaced AC evaporator and blower motor due to refrigerant leaking. Also replaced valve cover due to humming noise while engine running cold. All under CPO.

So my 2013 X1 with 132k miles is in getting airbag recall done. They gave me a black 2018 X1 loaner with every option. My wife said the loaner looks like a CR-V, which is true. The car is very different from the 2013. The 2013 is more of a tank, feels heavier, probably because the steering is very heavy. I drove the 2018 50 miles highway only this morning, and averaging 75 mph, it got 36 mpg. That was impressive. Drives beautiful, different feel with the front wheel drive. Back seat a little more leg room. All the doors and hatch door feel lighter not as solid as the 13. Overall fun and impressive. Gonna push the 13 as far as I can, and this will be an option when its time. Also want to drive the X2.

I'd rather get a Tesla before going with one of the turbo-4 options from BMW. I might consider a manual in a 4, but I've never been keen on an auto. Hopefully the price comes down on the Model 3's before the next car I purchase years down the road. PS I am my own mechanic, so I love the thought of sticking with one brand so the mechanics stay similar, outside of switching between RWD and AWD.

Just curious, why would you be OK with a turbo-6 but not a turbo-4?

I'm fine with an NA 6. I never have and probably never will be fond of 4's in an auto - It's not fast enough for me off the line, and with 50/50 mixed driving (until the 8 speed autos anyway) to make the 4's accelerate as responsively as a 6 I get just as good MPG in a 6 as a 4. Since ethanol was introduced, driving non-grandpa in equally mixed driving I can get 21-24 with an inline 6 or I can get maybe 22-25 with an inline for. 4's are rev happy which is fine - I used to get 32 MPG in a 4 cyl manual Mazda 6 pre ethanol. Most cars with substantial power in a 4 cyl (the STIs, Focus RS', etc) don't get better MPG than a turbo 6 equivalent. Many times they get worse. These are just my 32 year old opinions.

BMW X1 s28i is least rev happy car I've ever seen.
The torque comes on hard as low as 1250 rpm, and the 8 speed trans shifts fast to keep rpms low. Makes little noise unless you change parts. I drove a 435 coupe to see about the 35 engine. It had a 8 speed and was slightly faster than x1 s28i, but engine was higher reving and felt more forced. Even had some kind of special intake. It's all apples and oranges. We all pick what we like. |

I agree completely. Cars are like music... you can never be right or wrong about what you like!
I was just curious about what drove the statement. For me I hadn't owned a performance car since the early 80's (not that the X1 is really a performance car). So going from a Honda Pilot and Toyota Camry (4-banger) to the X1 (which has better performance than my first car - a 67 Camaro did) has been a nice step up in performance.

The intakes are a moot point generally as they don't add much, if anything to stock cars. They normally end up detracting lower end power to give you more upper end. You're right though, we pick what we like and there's absolutely nothing wrong with that. My own opinions come from my own driving experiences, I won't hate on your car choice (except maybe a Prius? JK)

I got a loaner X5 M sport one day. i thought they were trying to sell me another car.
Big, Jacked up feeling, and a little faster. It needs that power for the much more weight. I always wanted a smallish hot hatch, and s28i is as close as I'll get. I've always been a Japanese car guy, but any BMW makes most of them look puny. |

New to BMW, and new here as well. Bought a 2014 X35i with 40k miles a few months ago and i am truly in love with this car. Just clocked 50k miles yesterday already.
Considering a few performance mods, but don't want to go too in depth with it. Any suggestions will be much appreciated. |

An Oil catch can is optional but also good for preventative measure.

New to me I picked up last week with 117,000 miles. Now it has a bit over 119,000. (Holiday travels.) Love it so far! Need to get back to the dealer with a couple of tiny issues and order up some winter tires. Hoping to keep it for at least another 100 to 150k.

Just picked up my 2015 X1 couple days ago with 82k miles, loving it so far. Drives nice!
Hoping to see many E84 with high miles on so I know how reliable they are. Can't find much data yet on X1 with high miles, so doing lots of readings. Like Bill ^^^, I'm hoping for another 100k |
