So I finally got the tune installed for my s28. $1709 OTD at a BMW dealership.
I just drove through 20 miles of Friday afternoon traffic, so there is very little to say about it. Except, I can say that in Sport Mode, it feels like a whole new car. I will take the car out tonight when the traffic dies down. If there are any questions, I can try to answer since this thread was pretty helpful in making my decision to order it. |

Here is a quick assessment.
In Drive, I can feel a little more pick me up. My butt dyno tells me there a little bit more torque to take me off the line. In regular driving, I am rarely over 3k RPM and always coasting under 2k RPM. In Sport Mode, there is definitely more power there due to being in the higher RPM range. This really makes the car more lively to drive! I really need to drive it more to see how (or if) the transmission behaves any differently. The "delay" when taking off from a stop is still there. I would say this is worth the $1700 if you like driving the car a little more aggressively and tend to be in Sport Mode more than Drive. |

The transmission won't change how it operates. Dinan doesn't do anything with it.
After about 10000 kms of driving, I think my Dinan has gone flat line. Car feels slow, like it did when the tune wasn't downloaded into the box. I'll be heading into the dealer this coming weekend to make an appointment and to have their Dinan guy see what he thinks during a test drive. This was a common problem with the JB4 from what I've been reading, maybe the Dinan will have the same issue. I believe it has to do with the overboost system and the fact it's not a real tune, but a piggyback. If I can't resolve the problem by end of summer, I'll be trading in for an M2 or 335i. The X1's been good overall, but I need more powerrrrrrrrrrr!

A lot of times ones modifications begin to feel "flat" on the car. That's usually solved when you get a loaner and drive it for a day or two and then get back behind the wheel of yours and then you realize it's still as quick as it was.
I still have to reset my throttle to rid it of the flat peddle feel about once a month. Then it gets its peppy feel back, especially from a dead stop and I have the ECM based tune.

Oh I know all about getting used to the power, but mine is slow. Like 1993 Taurus slow. I can barely keep up with cars I should be able to walk when I was stock.

N20 Tunned
On the N20, with Dinan , 0-60 are good avg. 5.6-6.2sec.
the sad part for the X1 is 1/4 runs, its only hitting 94-95mph in the high 14 to low 15 sec. range. a lot of GTIs, mazdaspeed3 etc hit 99 to 100mph @ 14sec flat. My feed back on the Dinan N20 is Im happy with off the line, Disappointed with 1/4 runs But then if I'm holding 80mph, then floor it. It quickly drops into the three digit numbers quickly. My friends mazdaspeed 3, i can beat him off the line but @ 70, he flys by me like nothing. Same thing with the G37s Looking into a alcohol injection kits, I wish the X1 was 300lbs lighter. The X1 S28i N20 would be fun if it was hitting the scales @ 3200lbs |

I love my tune, definitely more clean power in the mid rpms. Just ordered an AFE intake to give a little more. Considering some exhaust, but not know if I want to go catless.
This is my first Bmw, love it, can never go back, but my next one needs to be faster. I've been in some fast cars recently. I'm in trouble |

Dave, I know how you feel, but where I live, the opportunities to safely use the speed are very limited. I've had my X for just a few weeks, a 2013 x28, with Dinan stage 1. Really enjoying it. Like you, I'd like a little more, though.
Good fun last night playing tag with a macan S on the interstate. Nothing crazy, mind you. Still learning the car. |

Yup, went to pick it up. Check engine light was on -- Nooo!... biggie, had to wait one more day as they fixed a faulty electronic waste-gate valve. Drove off the next day and wow, i love it. Was dying for a race, no takers. Off the line the tires feel as if they're ripping pavement. Turbo feels caffeinated. Torquey in low and especially mid range. More muscle overall for sure. Smoother/even power band. I use shifter exclusively, if you don't i would recommend making that a habit--much more fun. I have hydraulic steering and i'm liking that road feel combo. Sprintbooster set to green w/dinan stage 1 -- very happy -- albeit a little lighter than i wanted in the wallet.
lotsOfun. Get yurs! Last edited by popopine; 05-06-2015 at 09:36 PM.. |

I hate to say my 35i felt slow when I had to turn off my JB4 because my wife put 89 in the tank.... Even after nearly empty and refilling with 93, I left it off and it felt so slow in comparison. |
