I'll race you in my M3...and yes, I will take you up on the offer to ship me and my car, since I'm much closer Does a modded X1 really offer sub-4 sec 0-60?? Even modded? 1/4 mile times?? And don't just quote the engine, I'm talking the whole car here and I bet I'm a full 30 sec faster around a 35 second road course... C'mon dude

I will paypal anyone in this thread $2000 right now if they can show where I said the X1 is faster around a road course or a better car than the M3. Let alone a modded M3, which yours clearly is. Yes, a modded X1 is sub 4 seconds 0-60. Awd and 400hp, 450lb/ft torque tends to do that. I just don't understand why it's so hard for M3 owners to accept that their car isn't inhumanly fast in a straight line, especially because they put such an incredible effort into making sure everyone knows that they "didn't buy the M3 because of straight line speed." Great! Than it shouldn't bother you so much when a X1 with $400 mods pulls away from you on the street! Nobody's claiming they'll beat you around a track, and the M3 will drop ten times as many panties as the X1. But again, it really shouldn't bother you that you're down 150lb/ft torque to that X1. Because hey, you didn't buy it for straight line speed Last edited by paradoxical3; 02-28-2013 at 05:16 PM.. |

You'll beat me in a drag because of your mods, but I'd walk a stock M3. The X1 weighs only about 200lbs more, not 1000. And a N55 engine with a JB4 stg 2 puts out about 400hp and 450lbft torque, as is well established. So you're looking at +200lbs, -14hp, +150-200lbft torque with the benefit of AWD launch. As I said multiple times, the M3 will walk the X1 at triple digit speeds where the horsepower differential and drag come into play. But otherwise - closer than you thought, isn't it? |

400hp and 430ft/lbs torque in a 3200 lb car with AWD and launch control with only $500 in mods.

But of course, they lack other things that BMW offers. Which really comes back to what I'm saying - a lightly modded X1 offers a completely unique spot in the marketplace. 1. Extremely fast straight line speed 2. Cargo capacity to fit furniture and do home depot runs 3. Ground clearance and AWD for snow, potholes, and curbs 4. Interior quality and handling/steering feel of a BMW 5. Hydraulic steering! I honestly can't think of another car that offers that in this segment, comparisons to the M3's speed aside. I would be very interested in Mercedes A45 AMG if it would only be sold here in the US. That car looks like a true competitor to the X1 35i M Sport. I realize you can say "You can't compare a modded car to a non modded one" but how about this - the X1 is so unique (largely due to the n55 and ground clearance) that you can't even find a similar car and mod it to be comparable, and certainly not for the dirt cheap price of modding the X1. Cars like the WRX STI and A3 check some of the boxes (performance, luxury, utility, AWD) but not all - even lightly modded. Last edited by paradoxical3; 02-28-2013 at 05:29 PM.. |

Besides your comment about interior quality and cargo space, there is no comparison. The Evo is a sports car, the X1 is not. Plus you can pick up a brand new GSR for $35K out the door including taxes. Can you do that with a X1 35i M Sport?

The thing about the X1 you have to realize is that the numbers from other cars actually really aren't other cars. Same engine, same transmission. Actually, the X1 only weighs 70 more pounds than a e92 335 xdrive. Drag times should be nearly identical, for all intents and purposes. Last edited by paradoxical3; 02-28-2013 at 05:45 PM.. |

Only if your snow blower is stock...because mine is modded. It has to be modded to have any chance of beating your stock snow blower.

You'll cry over your failed turbos fairly soon, and that's after you've cried enough on your limp mode.
Had a 335i, no biggie. And very unreliable on stock form, not to mention if they get an engine tune.

A modded SAV beat a track tuned sports car in straight line...Clearly the X1 is the better car here with "high quality interior" as well. M3 drivers are all dumb ass ... let us all jump ship and switch to x1

paradoxical3 - I'm a big X1 fan. In fact, my mother in law just purchased a xDrive28i in mineral gray with a coral red interior... it's rather good looking and I agree, incredibly practical (handles well, quick, lots of utility, etc.). That said, I have a couple questions (as a former N55 owner) about some of the statements you've made... really, just out of curiosity.
For context, this thread was cross posted in the M3 forum (where I've been spending a lot of my time). Quote:

Either way - both are great cars. In fact, I'd love to have both in my garage. When my '09 X3 bites the dust, the X1 is going to get serious look. |

Here's one for a stock M3: Again, I'm absolutely not saying the X1 is a better car than the M3. M3 is faster around the track, has a nicer interior, is probably more reliable stock, etc, etc, etc. All I'm trying to say is that a lightly modded X1 is more than competitive in a straight line (and only in a straight line) with a STOCK M3. The dyno's speak for themselves. I get that it's cute to cross post the thread and have a self-congratulatory circle jerk that your M3 is a better car than an entry level X1 that costs HALF as much, but what you're not getting is that never once did I try to compare the X1 with any aspect of the clearly superior M3 other than straight line performance. But hey, if this is cross posted at the M3 forum, I'll call you out. If there is a stock M3 that is willing to race me at Edgewater Raceway in Cincinnati, I'll buy you dinner whether I win or lose and we'll videotape it and have a good time. Any takers? Has no one taken into account the X1's crappy aerodynamics and high center of gravity? Thats its major weakness..powerwise I agree a tuned tuned turbo would put down gobs of torque that would pull on an m3.
My tuned 335i n54 would consistently beat M3s in 0-60..top end higher speeds, the m3 has the advantage...then again we are talking the same chassis base..not an SAV |
