Ok, advice needed...
Carmax offered me 18,000 for my car. KBB gave it a trade value of 21-24. But they had 2 2013 X1s on the lot both for sale for 22,500. 18 is probably not that awful?? I was hoping for 20 to be honest, but they will buy it from me. Then, I go to the BMW dealer. Last week I had it in at the Dryer & Reinbold South dealer, where the service people told me I couldn't trade it in. Well, Carmax was near D&R North (this is all Indianapolis) so I went there today and I told the sales guy I just came from Carmax since I knew they couldn't do a trade for me. But he said they could. The other people were wrong, They offered me the exact 18,000 to trade in. Which would be a better deal when figuring paying less tax. He said they already have 30-40 cars they can't sell but they are just sitting on them. I told him my fear of having it be 2+ years before the recall can get done and my car value will be nothing and he said hogwash. The recall will be done and it won't affect value... Against everything that I'm reading... Do I take their 18 and run since I actually found a dealer to trade it? Originally I wanted to keep mine for another 2 years and trade then. I'm already bummed it's only worth 18 tho! I LIKE my current car. I ordered it to my specifications. I'm happy driving it. I just don't want to be stuck with it or it be worth nothing. So I'm not sure what to do. To make it slightly more complicated I'm not even sure if I'd get a 2016 X1 or just get a new Clubman S from Mini. It's really X1 like compared to my last Mini! It's the same dealer so it's the same trade amount and offer. Other fear is that once BMW starts sending out the actual recall notices a LOT of people will be trying to get out of theirs and this 18 offer might not stand for long. I'm really not ready to buy a new car but I'm afraid I will regret not doing it if I don't act soon... Anyone?... |

It's not. Sell it private party and it's worth much more. I always get trade offers $4,000-8,000 less than what I can get for the car on the private market.
I don't know why everyone is getting mad at their BMW dealer - it sounds like most of the dealerships are unwilling to take recalled vehicles in on trade for pretty good reasons; They can't move them. It's nothing personal, it doesn't matter how many cars you've purchased from them. Simple business. You guys are acting helpless and blaming the dealers when it's Takata's fault. Any dealer or entity (Carmax) accepting an E90-based vehicle on trade now is either uninformed or only doing it to make a sale in the hopes the updated airbags come soon. List your cars on the forums/Craigslist/Cars.com/Autotrader/etc. then buy your new cars without the hassle of trading. (I.E. a clean deal, you know exactly what you're paying for the new car) |

Anytime I sell a car private party for more than 10,000 it takes forever to sell becuase it's a smaller pool of buyers that can buy a car cash without a trade. But maybe that's differnt in other areas.

If you like the car keep it. You weren't going to trade it in before so why not keep it? The recall shouldn't change anything.
Also, +1 on selling the car privately. |

I used a few North American sites...Canadian vehicles are not covered and when i spoke to my dealer in Vancouver, I was told to check mybmw and it should have the recall info if at all my vehicle falls under that category...still no info or maybe they are slow to update. Either ways, it is what it is..cant do much except wait.

I ordered some Bilstien shock for my car a couple of weeks ago. I was planning on installing them when they get here in a couple of weeks. Last week I heard about the recall and my car is affected. I'm still putting the shocks on my car. I understand that there is a "safety issue", but look at the odds. There are 7.5 million total vehicles affected by the recall. There have been 10 deaths related to the airbag. Pretty minute. You have a greater likelihood of something else getting you than that. I'm not going to worry about it or take a huge hit on a car that i don't want to sell because of a perception issue. |

RocGuy, I would personally keep the car if you like it Recall will be fixed, everyone will move on. Things "should" be ok since your car is pretty new, and its likely just a preemptive move by BMW to avoid negative PR in the future to recall every single car with those airbags. It should be fine but one knows for sure though, so I guess it is up to you how worried about it you are (sort of like the "do you carry track insurance" on the M3 forums....) |

It is disconcerting knowing a safety feature on my still new to me car might kill me. I do hope for a speedy fix. Until then, guess I'll just try to avoid any front end collisions. :P

I received the recall notice on my 2013 last week. I really think they should give me a loaner until they can fix a potentially deadly defect. An M4 would suffice.

Received a recall letter last week and had a service appointment already scheduled for this week. When I took my car in I inquired about the recall, to which I was informed that they have yet to receive any new parts yet to complete the recall. I asked if they had a timeline for when they would get the parts in, but they didn't know.

I live in an area of low humidity. Does this mean I'm last on the list for repairs? My local dealer is ignorant of any timeline. My first, and last BMW, depending on the urgency of BMW NA to address this issue.

If Honda has the capabilities to replace defective airbags, why can't BMW? This death was a 2002 vehicle, and I'm sure is a different model of airbag than late model BMWs, at least, I'd like to think so. Not to mention, the auto industry has had knowledge of this for a long time. This could turn into a much bigger class action suit than the tobacco dealers. |

Just got my recall letter. Mine's a 2015 and it is leased.
I would like to know when they expect the parts to arrive. Other than that I love my X1, but not enough to die in it.

Before long, they'll have to double their legal team. This is ridiculous. Honda's an investor in Takata; it's not going to work out well for them. |

If anyone has a low mileage x135 in blue, with light colored interior, that feels unsafe, I'll make you a cash offer on it.
Yes, I want one. No one will sell me one. |
