And the X1 looks much better in real life, than on photos. It happend to me that I took a photo from the front and I couldn't believe that it looked not nearly as good as in reality.

I think the x1 is really good looking, and certainly a cool small suv option, although the audi isnt bad by any stretch of the imagination

But I'd still buy the Bimmer. LOL, My one is a far cry from the beauty of an A/S5, but the smiles it brings are unmatched.

I still don't see how anyone can say the N20 is a clear winner when it only makes 30HP more than the 2.0T while running 6PSI more boost. If you run the 2.0T at the same boost levels as the N20 it walks all over the N20 and it's not even close.
Cosmetically, the X1 is definitely better looking in person than in pics but until the Q3 is on the street we can't really say one is truly better looking. I still hate the X1 front bumper, back end, and it looks like someone sat on the hood right where it meets the windshield. It's drives pretty nicely but it's not nearly as quiet as anything with a roundel on it's hood should be. I've been in 15 -year old 3ers with less road and wind noise. |

Audi has angles everywhere. The Hayon looks ugly over the rear fender, same boooring Audi design, I really don't like it.
BMW, hase curves, is fluid in every angle, the tailights are aboslutely awesome, headlamps big but at least agressive. Audi looks like a dumb kid, BMW is more mature in every aspect. |

I will remake an old quote from the presentation of Camaro, long time ago:
Somebody of the press asked "What is a Camaro?" and the answer was "it's a small, vicious animal that eats Mustangs." Well, that's what X1 looks like, like a vicious animal that eats Q3s. For breakfast. |

audi looks better, but i don't buy cars for looks. wheelbase is 102.4" on the q3? why would anybody buy that - that's like the equivalent rear room of a jetta or something... throw in bmw's RWD bias on xdrive, the n20 and lower height - it's a no brainer for bmw.

i prefer the X1.The Q3 looks like any other Audi.looks dull and boring.too conservative in design no distinction from different audi models,no individuality ,even the inside looks the same as the others.

EXTERIOR: Audi's lines are much cleaner, except the rear slope being too steep and early, but I like the general proportion much better. X1 has very weird proportions, got a long ugly nose, ugly head light, grill too large, very ugly flare in the mid section looks so much like an afterthought, way too skinny, ugly curvy lines. The only nice design is the tail lights. The more I look at it, the more I dislike it. I am thinking about canceling my order. INTERIOR: Q3 win's except X1 has nicer 3 spoke steering whell. MECHANICAL/PERFORMANCE: I'm sure X1 wins in every catagory. But if we are just talking about the design, then I think the X1 is a loser. Also I cannot accept a car without a spare tire like the newer Bimmers. |

LOL
I'm actually surprised that all the BMW fanatics that post on this board are as objective as they are. Kudos to you all for your commentary. My opinion, since we all have one is that I need to see the Q3 in person before I render one. I can't even decide on a color through pictures, let alone decide on a new car purchase! Q3 at dealers starting in December, 2012? |

See, I don't like the X1s steering wheel - even the M wheel with perforated leather. It's too big, too far away, too many controls, and has an airbag I don't want and have to disable anyhow. And no mid-position indicator. It isn't truly the link between the wheel angle and driver that I desire, so it's one of the few things I'm likely going to change out. The Audi one is more spartan, and would have suited me better. The driver's environment, on the other hand, I like better in the X1 - I could be wrong, because I haven't looked inside a Q3, but I guess it isn't much better than the Q5 I have looked at, with an i-drive equivalent too far away and apparently intended for the passenger as much as the driver, and important buttons under the dashboard where you have to lean forward to get at them. Everything in the X1 is (in true BMW style) made with driving in mind, and other concerns coming second. It has more front-to-back room than most cars, and all important controls within reach, even when at speed. If I were to fault the X1 for the interior, it would be the sliding lid of the console box, which doubles as an elbow rest and thus should not move. I think Saab started that bad design, and lots of manufacturers followed suit. And the steering wheel, as mentioned above. But all in all, I prefer the BMW interiors over Audi ones - the former seem more driving oriented, and the latter comfort and style, with more padding and softer angles. As I grow older, my preference might change, but driving is currently what I focus on. But I think both the X1 and Q5 are great cars, and I'm sure the Q3 is too. |

I really disliked the X1 in photos when it first came out, the busy surfacing, the large grille, headlights, awkward proportions. Then I saw one in person at BMW Welt and it was amazing how much better it looked. It really has a different presence in person. I think the LCI did a good job at fixing some of the awkwardness in photos, but then again it still looks way better in person. The Q3 looks great in press photos but really looks uninspiring and sterile in person...it's predictable Audi. When seen on the street there's really nothing about the design that stands out. What's interesting is i've noticed in recent trips to Europe that the X1 seemed to outnumber the Q3 about 5:1. Maybe I just glossed over the Q3 because the design looked so anonymous, but the X1s were everywhere, sightings of the Q3 were much more rare. X1 reminded me of a tall sporty wagon, whereas the Q3 looked like a tall, somewhat bloated hatchback.
