Like I said, you can still find the 80 gig version (backwards compatible) online in some places:

That being said, Sony has never said they are phasing-out backward compatibility (hardware) from the PS3, so it is possible they could come out with say, a 120 gig backwards-compatible PS3. I wouldn't bet on it though, as I think Sony wants people to move on from the PS2 to the PS3.
