Having lived with the engine over the driven wheels (VW Bugs and various FWDs) and conventional RWDs, I'll take weight over the wheels any day of the week. I've had little success with conventional RWD no matter how good the tires, and let me humbly claim, in Westsylvania, we either learn to drive in the snow or we're stuck.
I'll defer to those with a sensitive enough right foot to get there with RWD, but it's left me tractionally challenged. AWD is another matter; whether it's traditional 4wd or modern AWD, it simply makes bad weather bearable; it also means you'll get where you are going without drama. It troubles me that there is no free lunch with AWD; gas mileage suffers and there is no means around it. But I'm old enough that I'd rather that getting stuck is on the list of stuff I don't have to worry about. Moon |
