Oil changed (3400mls), mud flaps added, and tires changed to ContiSportContact 5 SSR (run flat). The car has a bit of a different feel just driving down the road. Once they're broken in I'll see how these grip.
Edit - Also of note, the loaner I got was the 28i X1 Sdrive that I had back in Nov and got me interested in the model. I was reminded how nice the 4cyl turbo is in that lighter rwd version and why I bought an X1.

Took it up on the hwy this morning to put some break in miles on the tires. Also some speed tests up to 105 briefly to test the tire balancing job. Up to a place about 50 miles away to the north, then topped off with fuel and came back. Here was the fuel stop.

I only ended up adding about 3 gallons (all I'd burned driving up there). More for the miles on tires and give me a chance to test the balance job. So roughly 3 gallons of 100 oct with 13 gallons of 93. I might have 93.7

Why the wheel offset?
One mod I'm considering doing early on when I get my car is wheels spacers, because the wheels look a bit hidden under the fenders, and a wider track looks more aggressive. I'm wondering why BMW made the track so much more narrow than the fenders.
You can tell me all day that spacers are safe if done correctly, but I'm a big fan of trying to understand what people do and why they do it. Before I veto a decision made by an educated engineer, I'd like to know what s\he was thinking when making the decision in the first place. Examples: 1. Why such a flimsy OE sway bar - A sway bar limits the amount of travel one spring has relative to the one on the other side. This can lead to a jarring or bouncy ride under certain circumstances such as hitting a speed bump caddy cornered. Oh okay, I can still use an aftermarket sway bar but will need to avoid certain things, or live with pitfalls. 2. Why all season tires - The car is sold throughout the world, and all season tires are meant to be functional in all\most climates. Well, I don't live in 'all climates' so I'll choose something more appropriate for me. 3. Why have a narrower track when the fenders can accommodate a wider track? - hopefully one of you can fill this in |

Personally, I dislike how my wheels and tires extend too far out. Pull a string over the fender and move it down. If it snags on the wheel, the fender is too small or the wheel too broad or spaced out. |

I wish we had a law like that in Texas. Big pickups with ginormous mud tires are quite common, and most of their drivers can't stay on the road very well.

The F-150 gets equipped with oversized tires, gun rack, cow catchers with attached longhorns, and is used for drunk driving. The Silverado gets equipped with oversized tires, gun rack, cow catchers with attached longhorns, and is used for drunk driving with children in the back. Having an X1 or 135 is highly recommended, if nothing else so you can be agile enough to swerve and avoid them. Yes, there are decent people in rural Texas too, without single-syllable middle names nor the sheriff being their double cousin. But the stereotypes are alive and well, alas, as evidenced by the cars. |

Kentucky has some of the most beautiful scenery and driving roads in the country, but God help you if you get stuck behind a pickup truck here. There is NOBODY from out of state in rural Kentucky. Try to pass them and they WILL try to ram you off the road. A while back a local motorcycler got it on film when some redneck tried to kill him with his pickup truck and the guy actually got sent to jail. Then there's the time I was being driven home from the airport in KY by a middle eastern taxi driver. There was a nightmare of a traffic jam (was going to be a couple hour ride) and nobody was letting him in. He got in between a couple of pickup trucks at the merge, and they started flashing us with their brights. After a minute or two of the cab driver ignoring him, the first pickup truck raced around us and got alongside the second one up ahead. They then opened their driver doors to take up more road and formed a rolling roadblock while screaming racial insults at my cab driver. For a solid 10 minutes we were stuck behind them until I called the police because it was starting to get really nasty. I'm originally from the northeast, fwiw. I kind of stick out here. |

It's pretty dirty I know, so I'll get some better pics later, but I've just about finished with the suspension and summer wheel fitting fun for the weekend. Not to everyone's tastes for sure, but it's still got perfectly adequate clearance (4"-5") and rides very nicely thanks to quality suspension (KW). All in all, happy with the way it's finally starting to come along.

I've pretty much got mine where I'm going to keep it now. Dinan tune, switched to summer performance tires (still runflats), added mudflaps and BlackVue cameras to the front and rear of the vehicle and found a rear view mirror mount for my Escort 9500.
For all intent and purposes the car still looks totally stock from the outside and just some old guy in his grocery getter

I'm using KW V1's. Having been there before I knew I had no need for adjustable units like V3's and am very happy with the setup. In my opinion at least, they feel better than the stock M-Sport setup. |

It's funny because lowering the car like you did actually seems to change the overall lines of the car; I always thought that the rear 3/4 angle was not flattering on the X1 because of the high visual center of gravity, but bringing the entire car down makes it look spot-on and aggressive. I mean, it literally looks like a proper hot hatch - something fast, aggressive, and almost an upscale non-fast-and-furious WRX STI competitor or something.

Agreed.....I knew I was going to like it, but when I'd got it home and finished tinkering, I was truly gobsmacked at how different it looks now. For me at least it's likely to be one of my favourite changes to the vehicle! That and having it clean again
