My son came home with 2 yesterday. He was over helping gpa clean out the garage. Now, neither has any air pressure, both have lots of rust to match the 2 we already have.
Question though: How much would one spend on a vintage (80's probably) Trek? The rear sprocket broke during cleaning and 2 spokes now have nowhere to live. I'm worried the kid has never ridden on pizza cutters, he used to mountain bikes. His buddies love riding and he went a few times, but can't keep up with a bike that only pedals in 4th gear. I told him take all 4 to a shop and get an estimate to get them running: tubes, tires, derailer/brake adjustments, some LOObrication. |

There is at least a trifecta of F8s on the board. Nice!

I love mine too. However, I am suffering from a lower back spine misalignment and my orthopedic said it is getting worse. The cycling position is making it worse especially when I am in the drops or aero bar. I plan to keep my hybrid as I sit more upright and have less pain. It is a difficult decision as I have been riding road bikes for 47 years but at 73 I cant afford to endanger my health. My Domane is loaded with top shelf CF, Ultegra 11 speed Di2, power pedals, aero bar with bar end shifters, Aeolus 3 CF wheels etc. I won't have any problem selling it.
I also have a Trek hybrid which I can ride on our trails unless things get worse with my health. |

Advice : Take a warm water bath everyday and stay in the water for 15-20 minutes.

Thanks for the well wishes and advice. Cyclists have a special camaraderie among them. My bike shop owner is going to work with me to try find a good bike geometry which may allow me to ride a little longer. A recumbent is out of the question as they sit too low and with drivers today you need to be more visible.

I just bought my first road bike...2014 felt z100. It is entry level (I think MSRP is around $800) and I picked it up used for $300. If I really get into it I will upgrade to carbon, etc...plus I need to lose about 20 lbs, think that will make me much faster than a carbon bike I am going on a longish ride (for me) every weekend, around 20 miles. Baby steps...

So, we took in 4 bikes, and are fixing 2 of them. The TREK is an aluminum 1500, needs a new cup on the rear, and a bit of TLC. Shop says we can get out for under $200, so the kid is going for it (with his money)
The other little BMX bike needs some new shoes, in for about $40 then I already have someone who needs it for a raffle. Paying it forward so the TREK ends up good for my son. The best of the remaining 2 needs about $175 worth of tune-up. My son is learning to be nice, so he notified 2 buddies who are a lot taller than he and can sit this one, that he will give to them if they take it in to get fixed. The last one will end up on a scrap truck soon. . . |

Took my first bike ride today after my crash 1 month ago. It was only 16 miles and I rode my hybrid as it has front shocks. Ribs are still a little tender but it felt good to get out and ride.
