13140 Curt Hitch
Just finished installing the hitch on our X1 and I agree with Xess about removing the right side covers. I couldn't get the hitch up in there without removing them. I also had to use 6 washers on each stud on the drivers side flange, it is deeper than the passenger's side flange. So after 2 trips to the hardware store, one to get more washers and second to get shorter 18mm socket, I'm done 2 1/2 hours later. I used a small box wrench and channel locks to pop the rivets in place.

i installed the Curt Hitch today. Very straight forward but a word of warning. it is NEARLY impossible to reach the upper nuts once the hitch is in. Not sure what kind of tool would be best here but even if you get a tool on the upper nuts you are left with about 1/2" of room to turn it. also, through my skill set i broke the hose that connects to the valve at the tail pipe. i was worried that will cause damage to car but apparently people just remove that hose anyway. so the hitch is on and seems pretty sweet. hoping to put my versa haul rack and KTM 200 XCW on it for some adventures

A couple of you have had the Curt Hitch for a month or more. How is it holding up? Do you feel that there are any improvements that could be made to the setup? How about overall appearance? Do you think it blends in will and is not too noticeable? Does it stick out very far from the bottom of the car?

I installed my Curt hitch tonight. About two hours. I had extra washers on hand since that seems to be an issue, and it was. I did not have to take off the side piece/full bumper cover but I did take off all of the plastic "skid" plates. We will see if I got all of the nuts tight enough when I start pulling my utility trailer.

I will be finishing my install tomorrow due to having to get more washers for the A-Frame support. It appears that my a-frame mounting point is different and requires more spacers than the two included with the kit. I contacted Curt MFG and the engineers said washers would be fine to use as spacers without a problem. This was the first they had seen this issue on the a-frame so here is another heads up. My x1 was built in february of this year and has the premium package as required.

Has anyone tried a Draw-Tite hitch? A local shop indicated they would install this one with wiring harness, ball mount, ball pin & clip for around $450.

So, I can't install this on a non-sunroof X1? What's the sunroof got to do with all this? |

I just read the curt hitch installation instructions and sure enough, it specifically states that it only works with X1s with a panoramic sunroof due to the A-Frame.
Are there any alternatives out there for folks without the panoramic sunroof? |

Hey all, new to the board and BMW community.
2015 28i xDrive, dealer car with 6000 miles purchased at the end of May. The first thing I did was install the Draw-Tite. I tried to get someone to install a hitch, but U-haul said it had to be a custom job, 4-6 weeks and $1000 + labor. HA! Criminals. The other two I contacted were Draw-Tite dealers. The first got back to me after talking with their install guy. "Oh, this job is a bi+ch! $425 install cost with you providing the hitch". The second said $225 but that I would have to wait 2-3 weeks for his schedule to clear. So I did it myself. Luckily, one of my friends offered a lift! Super easy. One hint I have is that you must loosen the third nut on both sides of the bumper. Otherwise, the hitch will not move into place without being able to manipulate the bumper. Took about an hour being careful with every step, not that it is tricky in any way. Without the lift, the PITA factor would have risen dramatically. PS: 1 Up USA bike rack attached- best hitch mount rack for 1-3 bikes. |

Had trouble getting my Hidden Hitch class III hitch up into place. The crash bar leaves almost no room!
Wondering if I should just pull the bumper and take the crash bar off for the install. It looks almost identical to the Curt hitch |

I removed everything for mine and still found it quite tight. Keep in mind the crush bar has a lip on it so you might need some washers if you're putting the hitch on top of the crush bar.

Getting the washers on while holding the hitch away from the crush bar was a bit of a trick but its all in. Fun fact: I found out hidden hitch is now the same/rebranded company Draw Tite. So hidden hitch branded hitches are "old stock" |
