Congrats on the new car! Feel free to pm me if you have any questions about mods (like the Alpina B3 transmission flash). I know you said you don't plan on heavy mods but we will see how long that lasts!

Thanks! I'm leasing the car so I need to be a little careful about the mods if I can. Keeping the M3 should help. The Alpina B3 transmission flash seems like a total no brainer.

BMW should have just made an X1 M to begin with. Makes so much more sense than a X5 or X6 M.

This is something to think about - 10 years ago, there was a much larger gap between a car with a M badge slapped on and it's comparative real M car. Now, there is much smaller of a difference and they share the majority of the parts. M4 owners will point to the suspension and driveshaft as evidence of it being bespoke, but the reality of the situation is a 435 owner can buy a JRZ suspension setup, slap a tune and the M3 brakes on their car, and have a car that performs better around the track with the exact same throttle characteristics and sound. That just wasn't the case a decade ago, or even a few years ago. Last edited by paradoxical3; 04-07-2014 at 04:29 PM.. |

Here in northern Italy I see a lot of the 1 series hatchback body style M Sports with just the M badge on the back with no other badges. Most are diesel 1.8 liter engines however. You can usually tell what the engine size is by the exhaust pipes over here. Those 1-Series over here start from 1.6 liter up to 2.5 liter, 3-Door and 5-Door hatchback style. I even saw this one on the showroom floor.

I picked up (Euro delivery) and X1 MSport SDrive in Late February and it DID NOT have the badge. In contrast, my buddy picked up his in September and it did have it...Advisor had no clue why the difference.

Not a fan of a ///M badge on non M cars either. When I had my e39 M, this girl was sporting a e39 528i with M badges everywhere in my town. Now down here in Scarface land, e90 328's have M badges. My 35i is a base model but if I had the M sport line, keep that M badge far away please.

3DZ "Without Lines designation outside" Is this why some don't have it? Does BMW include ///M badges on other "M Sport" line/package cars?

My car with a April 2013 production date did not have the M badge on the front fenders.
However there was another X1 that was up for consideration when car shopping, and that had a production date of August 2013 which DID have the M badge on the fenders. |

I don't think anything has changed and it's all due to the option "Model designation deletion" but I'm not sure what actually it deletes. I factory ordered mine and didn't ask for this option and I have small ///M badges on both sides underneath the side mirrors. Also, mine is April 2014 make. May be some in display at dealers they get couple with this option for ppl who don't like it..

Nope, my 2014 X1 xDrive35i M-Sport does not have a badge. Looking thru my options list it doesn't show 3DZ "Without Lines designation outside".

just found out from the Australian bmw site using build my car that design designation deletion only deletes the 'X1' at the back and the sdrive/xdrive on the side. It didn't touch the ///M badge at all.
