If the cable is for up to 2008 it won't work with 2013 without modifications. Fortunately you can make it work by shortening two pins. I don't know which ones though. You gotta search for it.

Cable compatibility
It's been a year or so since I bought my cable and my recollection is hazy, but as I recall I went ahead and bought an eBay cheapie cable fully expecting to need to bridge the 7 & 8 pins or that it would just be garbage and not work at all. But the thing exceeded expectations and worked 100% straight away no mods necessary. It's also pretty decent quality doesn't feel cheap.
I'm no expert and not sure about this, but my impression is that sellers of these cables on the internet are just copying each other's listing descriptions and carrying forward the '98-'08 etc. etc. language when in reality most cables on sale in recent years are compatible with our modern cars. Maybe the sellers just aren't updating their ads or maybe they're not willing to go out on a limb and claim uncertain compatibility and risk customer complaints. In the end I guess all I really know is that in my case the thing just worked...no fuss. Maybe another forum member with more expertise will chime in and explain. |

Are you all doing the flash with some sort of battery charger or just making sure your battery charge is OK? I remote coded a year ago and I just remember them coding with battery power. Now that my car is older, I'm not sure if that's safe. Any recommendations?

Just got the TCU flash yesterday, remotely coded by CodeMyCars LLC. (Over)paid $185 including cable. I'm not sure which flash he did, but the car feels completely different and I'm glad to be rid of all that lag in the stock transmission. I used to hate driving in D, but the flash has made highway driving enjoyable again! Pretty crisp downshifts in S manual, too.
I still have the cable, so PM me if anybody needs one. I paid $45 for it and am willing to absorb shipping costs if I can recover that much. |

That being said, I had to do mine twice for some reason the first time. Flashed once, finished too quickly (took like 15 seconds), got the gear indicator light. Flashed back to stock, then did it again...exactly the same steps and it worked AOK, except for the paddles. I followed the simple coding instructions provided in the link in the first post to re-enable them (just recoding one of the modules).

Possible on Windows 10?
Can I perform the alpina transmission flash with Windows 10 operating system? Unfortunately, that's all I have access to.

Thanks. Makes sense.
I remember the remote coder had to code the paddles back too. At least this time around, I can try the "alternate" alpina flash that you are using. Quote:

As for Windows 10 I bet people have tried and/or are using BMW tools on Win10. It's probably covered in the forums for higher volume models than ours. |

I reverted back to stock from the Alpina software last night and had a very positive experience.
The normal stock zusb is listed as 7601492 on all of the popular DIYs. 7647747 is listed as the stock X1 N55 transmission software on another forum. I used SA-finder (a russian tool) to find the latest version of 7647747 and came up with 8612308. This seems to be the latest firmware available for GKE215 and it is very nice for a stock flash. I assume that 8612308 is the software the dealer would use if you went in and they had to upgrade your TCU today. I will check the v59.0 Datens tonight to see if there is something even newer, though. This flash has firm, quick shifts, and not as harsh as Alpina. Bottom line: If you're going back to stock anyways, I'd recommend this over 7601492 that is likely older than our cars. Last edited by fiehlsport; 11-03-2016 at 04:21 PM.. |

When I get my cable from one-stop, I will see what variant the dealer installed after they reflashed everything to do the combox. It is not as bad as I remembered although slower to shift for sure-- but smoother is the upside. |

I'm still very satisfied with this new stock flash after a few days. It's less confused and clunky than the Alpina was, and still snaps off shifts really quickly. |

Yup, resurrecting an older thread. But I'm interested in the Alpina flashes, including the updated stock flashes. I've got INPA, NCSexpert, WinKFP, etc. with SPDATEN55, all set up in a VM, plus a quality K+DCAN cable.
My question is where to get the Alpina flashes (specifically 7603537), plus the updated stock flash (8612308)? I've done the Google dance but have come up short. I've seen the dropbox link in the above referenced thread but if I understand the post correctly, that may not be the flash I'm looking for. OR, are the flashes all bundled together? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

They will all be listed for the tranny. The 8612308 will be in the newer spdaten files. Not sure about 55. You may have to update to a newer version.

Thanks for the info. I found v60 this morning and I'll check to see if it's there.

Just as a follow-up, 8612308 is in SPDATEN 60, which is the latest release I believe. And 7647747 is my stock transmission tune. I think I'm going to try the 8612308 before trying the Alpina so I can get a better idea of the differences between old and new stock tunes. The Alpina should be easily noticeable.

Dumb question for those who have recently done this flash: in the DIY guide referenced in the first post, under the part for how to fix the paddle shifters, it says to have SPdaten 49.3 or 48.1 loaded into NSCexpert and Ediabas. That guide was from 2013, and the current version of SPdaten I'm downloading is 60.1. Is it correct to assume that this version of SPdaten will work for the paddle shifter fix?
