What did the previous owner use to increase hp? That O2 sensor looked rich. How's the cat substrate?
Did you get any codes when you had trouble starting? |

Can someone who has had this done tell me if there are parts involved in the recall (2014 X1). I made an appointment some time back to address the recall but in talking to them today they report "we are still waiting for the part to come in". Because I am 2 1/2 hours from the nearest BMW dealer it is not convenient for me to drive there on short notice. I need to plan ahead. My impression was this is just a soft wear fix.

I did call the BMW dealer yesterday to inquire on the status of setting up an appointment to have the emissions calibration done. The service department informed me that the "parts" were in and I could schedule the appointment. They said it would take about 90 minutes to do the recall repair.
I have had all of the servicing of my 2014 X1 done by the BMW dealership (other than battery replacement) including air bag replacement so they have that repair on file. They always review the invoice with me at the end of the service so I guess the best thing to do is ask them what part was replaced. I agree with you that recalibration of the ECU should not require any parts and I am not sure why I had to wait a month to schedule an appointment. We'll see. I will report back. |

We're gonna bring my wife's X1 in this coming week to have the recall fix done. We use an independent shop to maintain the vehicle, it's never been to an actual dealer since we've owned it for 3 years. I'm hoping our local BMW dealer welcomes us with open arms, haha.

DINANSport tuner compatible w/ emissions recall campaign 20E-A01?
Quote:
The letter threatens that not having this work performed "... could be determined as lack of proper maintenance... and may jeopardize your full protection under the emissions warranty provisions." Hmmm, need to check my paperwork to see what emission warranty would even be left on a 2014 x28 with nearly 100k on the clock. Would rather let it run a little rich and risk some extra emissions than let it run a little lean and risk predetonation. And isn't "rich" primarily what the tuner is doing anyway (by lying to the DME)? Next stop, Dinan Customer Support... |

Hello,
Just went with Dealership Related to Recal:20E-A01 The following are observation: 1. I have an OBD Scanner and have some basic test readings,I just observed some differences. Please see Pixs 1 Note: Trying to upload excel file to show before and after DME SW Upgrade 2. Also prior to the Recall DME SW Update I don't have any fault code. Now I am seeing 2 Fault Code. Please see Pixs 1 I already reached out to my Service Advisor to clarify. So far no Engine Light,or any funtion issue (as of now :-)) and some coding that I have made are still available. Is there anything concerning so far?

how long (days, or miles) between the "after" readings and when the dealer did the reprogramming?
Could it be that you haven't accumulated enough runtime or number of drive cycles for those incomplete tests to give results? |

Update 20220121: I drove the car for ~ 30 mins last night and have seen some changes.
- 2 Fault Codes are now gone. - Test Result are now almost the same but have seen differences now assuming after the DME SW Update related to CO2 Emissions. - "Emissions Readiness s/DTC" did update for the O2 Sensor and Catalyst.Still seeing "Fuel System" incomplete. It was recommended to drive the car also on highway speed, will be doing it tonight or tomorrow. So I think overall nothing concerning?

Recall affects aftermarket devices
I had the recall done today by my BMW dealer. Unfortunately, doing the flash for the recall eliminated the coding for my back-up camera. The camera was an aftermarket one made to fit BMWs that a technician and my son had installed 5 years ago and had worked fine since installation. However, since it was not part of the original build for the car, the recall flash wiped out the camera coding.
The dealer tried to fix it but we did not have any info to reload the aftermarket camera coding. It was not the dealer's fault. I just wanted to provide an alert to anyone that has similar aftermarket devices. Otherwise, I did not see any changes in performance, etc., from the recall. |

Got this recall completed. All custom coding such as unlock doors when engine is off..etc are gone so trying to re-code using NCS tool but unable to write to CAS or NFRM modules after this re-flash ECU. I'm suspecting the SP-daten file in the NCS tool is out-dated, currently on v6.0. Anyone know or can confirm if we still can recode custom coding using NCS tool? Any advise/guidance is much appreciated.

My 2014 X1 recently had the recall service done and the custom coding is still intact. I only had a few things done, none of it engine related. The seat belt chimes were disabled, auto door locks were disabled, the blinker was changed from 3 to 5, some other warning chimes were disabled. Everything still works as before.
I did ask the service manager at the time of the recall service if it would affect the custom coding and he said sometimes it does, sometimes not, depending on what coding was done, but he did not elaborate. |

I'm not too familiar with the Dinan tunes - was your stage 1 a flash tune, or one of those chips that stays plugged in? If it was a flash tune, wouldn't this software update have over-written your flash tune? Unless they re-flashed stage 1 afterwards, but that would have over-written the software update making the update useless, no? Unless they have the capability to just over-write the fuel maps/whatever needed to change vs. writing the whole updated bin file to your DME. I don't know the specifics of how they do it, but I'd have assumed it's the latter (writing the whole updated bin file to the DME).
