These are options on the X3, wish they were options on the X1:
Vermillion Red Carbon Black Mojave Leather (I likely would have chosen this over the coral red I ordered) Also, the X3 has a newer M Sport steering wheel which is available heated. Judging by the pictures, I like the X1 M Sport wheel better but heated would be nice. |

Even though the vermillion is nice, it does show dust etc, looks great when clean though. I kinda Like the orange, the red is a bit common in the suv/sav market these days.
Our car has the paddle shift, but the auto does a really good job in sport mode so I don't do the paddles very often. Don't miss the manual trans. |

The auto does a great job in sport mode. I use the paddles in D when I need immediate control (usually on the freeway). It returns from manual to D automatically after 10 secs or so.

I thought about this wheel for my E90 but was told that you needed to wear gloves to keep the alcantra nice. Last edited by nospam; 12-08-2012 at 04:05 PM.. |

This is honestly the best "feature" of the paddle shifters. Love them for this exact reason.

I can't recall, does the 6 speed have a 'sport' setting when you shift it over to be in manual mode? |

I got a 35i base with tech, prem, heated seats, satellite radio, blk/blk.
At first I regretted not getting the rear view camera package b/c the view out back is pretty high and small but, honestly, you get used to it. The X1 is shorter than even a 3-series so as long as you think about what you're doing, parking is easy. I then questioned the need for the 35i engine after I started getting under 14mpg for the first 2 weeks of ownership. Since then it has settled to around 17mpg mostly city (800 miles). The six speed with the 35i engine feels like last-gen technology (cause it is) but, thinking back to my test drive of the 28i, the turbo lag from a dead stop would have driven me crazy b/c I'm usually in traffic or stuck at a red light. But if you do mainly driving at speed, the 28i is really more than adequate and im sure gets much, much better fuel economy than the 35i... The 35i is also incredibly smooth and extremely fast. For me, it kind of "makes" the X1 in knowing that its faster than 95% of cars on the road. If I could change something about my order id probably at least test drive the M-sport package due to the summer tires. The all seasons that come with the X1 tend to lose grip very easily - so much so at first I thought they were built more for snow and mud rather than the street. Over time, however, I've gotten used to it. Another adv. of the sport package is that it opens up the red leather interior. The blk interior with aluminum trim that i have is kind of somber but, knowing me, id probably say the red interior was too loud if i had gotten it. I also saved a bunch of cash by not getting the M sport and upgrading to the 35i for the std features such as the 18" rims, xenons, etc. Things I couldn't live w/o, personally, are the panaramic roof, idrive/tech package and xenon headlights with LED rings. Those features, in addition to the 35i, really make me look forward to driving the car each day. Id also get the cold weather pkg to get the heated steering wheel esp considering the minimal price difference between that and a la carte heated seats. No regrets. I did originally go looking for an M Sport package, but neither one of the two in my area had paddle shifters. The Sport packaged ones did and so it ended up as a 35i Sport

Since my old thread was revived I will chime in that I am quite happy with the M Sport 35i I ended up with so thanks to everyone for your input.
And I have zero regrets about having the 6 speed vs the 8, I didn't buy this engine to have hi mpgs and ASS and I shift away in manual mode with no complaints (I dont even mind that it wants to start from stops in second gear, with this setup it has good power anyway unlike prior BMWs ive driven that did that and I always needs to go to first gear). It has been updated and per ZF this transmission is not outdated - "Is the 6-speed automatic transmission thus outdated? Wagner: Certainly not. The 6-speed automatic transmission will continue to provide the benchmark with the reaction and shifting times of a dual clutch transmission. We also lead the competition when it comes to shifting comfort and consumption. Therefore, the 6-speed will surely remain in our program until 2015." http://www.zf.com/corporate/en/produ...interview.html |

I'm guessing more X28i's over X35i, over S28i's.
