I'm not sure I wish It were avalible now I would be at the dealership. I think it's an X3 killer though. I'd prefer the X5 and X6 for a larger Suv but I would say the X1 is perfect.

Apparently in early spring 2011
"BMW brings us its smallest-ever SUV, the X1, in early spring of next year." That is from the Automobile Magazine April 2010 issue on page 14. A local dealer claims BMW is intentionally holding the X1 until about six months after the new X3 is released. My wife has decreed that she is getting an X1, and I look forward to driving it, when she lets me!

I've definitely got my eye on a small diesel X1 - want the manual transmission and AWD which knocks the Audi A3 out of the picture. We are soon to be empty nesters and look forward to the cost savings of a fun, smaller car to commute and travel in. I really hope we don't have to wait for 2012 to get it in the US - I may have to give up and buy a truck first. My '94 BMW has 260,000 miles on it so I don't know if it will last for another 2 years. Hard to beat BMW's track record - the '94 is my third one - and I've worn the wheels off all of them.

Here's my $.02....the X1 & X3 will compete in 2 different market segments and holding off the release of one to allow the other to gain market share does not make any sense. But hey, BMW has done lots of things that don't make sense, so who am I to argue? As for me, I'll wait for the German made X1, which hopefully will have all the early production bugs worked out by the time it hits the US, than rush into a first off the line, US made X3.

You may have to wait longer. The initial plan is to only bring in the current 6-in-line 260 hp 3.0 ltr.

i cannot wait for this thing to get here! it's exactly what i want (though i do drool over the X6, it's just too big). my lease on my 328 will be up at the end of the year, i am going to sell my 840, and get my hands on this X1. does anyone know if it's only being offered as 4 cyl? is 6 cyl available? i'd much rather have the 3.0 engine. and manual transmission....

As this is turning into the exact same conversation, please note that there's already a topic on the subject of the X1 coming to the US Page one: http://e84.xbimmers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=475132
